Abstract

A graphical user interface for a financial planning system includes a retirement summary page that includes a current plan tab and a plan model tab. The current plan tab includes an income graph including, for each year of retirement, guaranteed and variable income in a two-color bar graph. Values on the income graph are generated based on income factors associated with a user profile. The plan model tab includes a link selectable to display a page that enables the user to select a model projected income factor that differs from a corresponding income factor. The plan model tab further includes a model income graph including, for each year of retirement, a model guaranteed and variable income in another two-color bar-graph. Values on the model income graph are generated based on the at least one model projected income factor substituted for the corresponding income factors.

4 . The GUI according to claim 2 , wherein the income graph further comprises an achievable-income line scaled to the abscissa of the two-color bar-graph, the achievable-income line extending horizontally at a value calculated by the planning engine as an average yearly income obtainable throughout a life expectancy of the respective user from an optimal spend-down strategy for the plurality of income factors.

5 . The GUI according to claim 4 , wherein the model income graph further comprises a model achievable-income line scaled to the abscissa of the another two-color bar-graph, the model achievable-income line extending horizontally at a value calculated by the planning engine as the average yearly income obtainable throughout the life expectancy of the respective user from an optimal spend-down strategy for the model income factors.

6 . The GUI according to claim 1 , wherein the current plan tab further includes an income factor display area programmed to display, in an alphanumeric format:

(i) in response to a selection by the respective user of the two-color bar-graph associated with a particular year of retirement, at least a portion of the income factors for the particular year; and

(ii) in an absence of any selection by the respective user, the at least portion of the income factors for a default year.

7 . The GUI according to claim 1 , wherein the retirement summary page further comprises a market performance selector operable to select a projected market performance, wherein the selected projected market performance is transmitted to the planning engine for use in generating the income graph and the model income graph.

8 . A computer-implemented method for implementing a graphical user interface (GUI) for a financial planning system, the financial planning system including a planning engine in communication with a database, the database storing user profiles for a plurality of users, each user registered for services with respect to a financial account of the respective user, the method comprising:

displaying, on a retirement summary page of the GUI, a current plan tab comprising an income graph, wherein the income graph comprises, for each year of retirement, a guaranteed income and a variable income in a two-color bar graph, and wherein values displayed on the income graph are generated by the planning engine based on a plurality of income factors associated with a user profile of a respective user in the database, and

displaying, on the retirement summary page, a plan model tab comprising:

a revisit-my-goals link selectable to display, in overlay over the retirement summary page, a revisiting goal page that enables the respective user to select at least one model projected income factor that differs from a corresponding one of the plurality of income factors; and

a model income graph comprising, for each year of retirement, a model guaranteed income and a model variable income in another two-color bar-graph, wherein values displayed on the model income graph are generated by the planning engine based on model income factors, the model income factors comprising the plurality of income factors having the at least one model projected income factor substituted for the corresponding one of the plurality of income factors.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the income graph further comprises an income-goal line scaled to an abscissa of the two-color bar-graph, the income-goal line extending horizontally at a value corresponding to a user goal stored in the user profile of the respective user.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the at least one model projected income factor includes a model user goal, and wherein the model income graph further comprises a model income-goal line scaled to an abscissa of the another two-color bar-graph, the income-goal line extending horizontally at a value corresponding to the model user goal.

11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the income graph further comprises an achievable-income line scaled to the abscissa of the two-color bar-graph, the achievable-income line extending horizontally at a value calculated by the planning engine as an average yearly income obtainable throughout a life expectancy of the respective user from an optimal spend-down strategy for the plurality of income factors.

12 .
