Abstract

Various embodiments may be generally directed to techniques for UE initiated and network initiated IP flow mobility. Various embodiments provide techniques for sharing IP flow routing rules and/or filters between a UE and various network infrastructure components using existing network based protocols or extensions thereto. Various embodiments provide techniques for provisioning network based IP flow mobility triggers and for ensuring UE connections to a 3GPP network are maintained in the absence of any 3GPP network IP flows.

Claims (38)

1. User equipment (UE), comprising:

radio frequency (RF) circuitry; and

baseband circuitry coupled to the RF circuitry, the baseband circuitry to:

generate a wireless local area network (WLAN) control protocol (WLCP) packet data network (PDN) connectivity request message;

indicate, via the WLCP PDN connectivity request message, that an existing PDN connection is to be provisioned as a multiple access PDN connection by adding one of a WLAN or a 3 rd generation partnership project (3GPP) network as an additional access connection;

generate a WLCP network-based IP flow mobility (NBIFOM) request message to include an indication of an updated routing rule;

include a new routing filter description for the updated routing rule in the WLCP NBIFOM message flow; and

transmit the WLCP PDN connectivity request message via the RF circuitry.

2. The UE of claim 1 , the baseband circuitry to indicate in a request type field of the WLCP PDN connectivity request message that the existing PDN connection is to be provisioned as the multiple access PDN connection and to specify one of the WLAN or the 3GPP network as the additional access connection.

3. The UE of claim 1 , the baseband circuitry to update a routing rule in the WLCP PDN connectivity request message.

4. The UE of claim 1 , the baseband circuitry to modify a routing access type of an existing routing rule in the WLCP PDN connectivity request message.

5. The UE of claim 1 , wherein the WLAN is a trusted WLAN (TWAN).

6. The UE of claim 1 , comprising an application processor.

7. The UE of claim 6 , comprising one or more RF antennas.

8. The UE of claim 1 , wherein the WLCP NBIFOM request message flow comprises a bearer resource command.

9. An apparatus for user equipment, comprising:

circuitry to:

generate a wireless local area network (WLAN) control protocol (WLCP) packet data network (PDN) connectivity request message indicating that an existing PDN connection is to be provisioned as a multiple access PDN connection by adding one of a WLAN or a 3 rd generation partnership project (3GPP) network as an additional access connection,

generate a WLCP network-based IP flow mobility (NBIFOM) request message to include an indication of an updated routing rule, and

include a new routing filter description for the updated routing rule in the WLCP NBIFOM message flow; and

a transceiver coupled to the circuitry to transmit the WLCP PDN connectivity request message.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , the circuitry to indicate in a request type field of the WLCP PDN connectivity request message that the existing PDN connection is to be provisioned as the multiple access PDN connection and to specify one of the WLAN or the 3GPP network as the additional access connection.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 , the circuitry to update a routing rule in the WLCP PDN connectivity request message.

12. The apparatus of claim 9 , the circuitry to modify a routing access type of an existing routing rule in the WLCP PDN connectivity request message.

13. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the WLAN is a trusted WLAN (TWAN).

14. The apparatus of claim 9 , the circuitry comprising a baseband processor and an application processor.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , the transceiver comprising at least one radio frequency (RF) antenna and RF circuitry.

16. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the WLCP NBIFOM request message flow comprises a bearer resource command.

17. At least one computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by processing circuitry of user equipment (UE), cause the UE to:

generate a wireless local area network (WLAN) control protocol (WLCP) packet data network (PDN) connectivity request message indicating that an existing PDN connection is to be provisioned as a multiple access PDN connection by adding one of a WLAN or a 3 rd generation partnership project (3GPP) network as an additional access connection;

generate a WLCP network-based IP flow mobility (NBIFOM) request message to include an indication of an updated routing rule;

include a new routing filter description for the updated routing rule in the WLCP NBIFOM request message flow; and

transmit the WLCP PDN connectivity request message via radio frequency (RF) circuitry.

18. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim of claim 17 , the instructions, when executed by the processing circuitry cause the UE to indicate in a request type field of the WLCP PDN connectivity request message that the existing PDN connection is to be provisioned as the multiple access PDN connection and to specify one of the WLAN or the 3GPP network as the additional access connection.

19. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim of claim 17 , the instructions, when executed by the processing circuitry cause the UE to update a routing rule in the WLCP PDN connectivity request message.

20. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim of claim 17 , the instructions, when executed by the processing circuitry cause the UE to modify a routing access type of an existing routing rule in the WLCP PDN connectivity request message.

21. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim of claim 17 , wherein the WLAN is a trusted WLAN (TWAN).

22. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim of claim 17 , wherein the WLCP NBIFOM request message flow comprises a bearer resource command.
