Abstract

Systems and apparatuses are provided in which outlets are coupled to a power distribution unit (PDU) or PDU module in various configurations. The outlets may be coupled to a recessed surface within a PDU housing. The outlets and recessed surface may be formed as part of a single mold. The outlets may be coupled to a printed circuit board that is at least partially disposed within the PDU housing. The outlets may extend away from the recessed surface or printed circuit board towards or beyond a front face of the PDU housing.

Claims (44)

1. A power distribution unit, comprising:

a housing having at least one opening;

a power input coupled with the housing and connectable to an external power source; and

at least one outlet bank located at least partially within the housing and including:

a unitary body comprising:

a surrounding flange abutting the housing;

a recessed surface;

a fixed array of spaced apart IEC-C13 outlet cores extending from the recessed surface, each outlet core having a core height sufficient to receive an IEC C-14 plug, wherein each outlet core has a uniform shape from the recessed surface throughout its core height; and

including an unobstructed space located between at least one adjacent pair of the array of outlet cores throughout each outlet core's height, wherein the unobstructed space extends to surround each adjacent outlet core; and

a plurality of electrical terminals disposed in each outlet core.

2. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein each outlet core extends from the recessed surface to terminate in a distal face proximate to a plane of a front face of the housing.

3. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein the unobstructed space surrounding each outlet core is sized to accommodate a mating IEC C-14 plug.

4. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein the unobstructed space surrounding each outlet core has a consistent geometry throughout its core height.

5. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein selected ones of the electrical terminals of the array of outlet cores are ganged together.

6. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein an interior region of the housing contains power measurement and distribution components.

7. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein the unitary body comprises molded plastic.

8. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein the array of spaced apart IEC-C13 outlet cores is a linear array.

9. The power distribution unit of claim 1 , wherein the at least one adjacent pair of the array of outlet cores are spaced apart to accommodate corresponding mating IEC C-14 plugs.

10. The power distribution unit of claim 9 , wherein the at least one adjacent pair of the array of outlet cores are spaced apart a distance such that adjacent mating IEC C-14 plugs are in contact with each other when connected to a respective outlet core.

11. An outlet bank, comprising:

a molded plastic unitary body including:

a surrounding flange;

a recessed surface;

a fixed array of spaced apart IEC-C13 outlet cores extending from the recessed surface, each outlet core having a core height sufficient to receive an IEC C-14 plug, wherein each outlet core has a uniform shape from the recessed surface throughout its core height; and

including an unobstructed space located between at least one adjacent pair of the array of outlet cores throughout each outlet core's height, wherein the unobstructed space extends to surround each adjacent outlet core; and

a plurality of electrical terminals disposed in each outlet core.

12. The outlet bank of claim 11 , wherein the unobstructed space surrounding each outlet core is sized to accommodate a mating IEC C-14 plug.

13. The outlet bank of claim 11 , wherein the unobstructed space surrounding each outlet core has a consistent geometry throughout its core height.

14. The outlet bank of claim 11 , wherein selected ones of the electrical terminals of the array of outlet cores are ganged together.

15. The outlet bank of claim 11 , wherein the array of spaced apart IEC-C13 outlet cores is a linear array.

16. The outlet bank of claim 11 , wherein the at least one adjacent pair of the array of spaced apart IEC-C13 outlet cores are spaced apart to accommodate corresponding mating IEC C-14 plugs.

17. The outlet bank of claim 16 , wherein the at least one adjacent pair of the array of outlet cores are spaced apart a distance such that adjacent mating IEC C-14 plugs are in contact with each other when connected to a respective outlet core.

18. A power distribution system, comprising:

a power distribution unit, comprising:

a housing having at least one opening;

a power input coupled with the housing and connectable to an external power source; and

at least one outlet bank located at least partially within the housing and including:

a unitary body comprising:

a surrounding flange abutting the housing;

a recessed surface;

a fixed array of spaced apart IEC-C13 outlet cores extending from the recessed surface, each outlet core having a core height sufficient to receive an IEC C-14 plug, wherein each outlet core has a uniform shape from the recessed surface throughout its core height; and

including an unobstructed space located between at least one adjacent pair of the array of outlet cores throughout each outlet core's height, wherein the unobstructed space extends to surround each adjacent outlet core; and

a plurality of electrical terminals disposed in each outlet core; and

at least two IEC C-14 plugs connected to corresponding adjacent outlet cores.
