Abstract

Methods and apparatus to analyze sensor recordings are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a sensor to record a plurality of recordings and a memory. The example apparatus also includes a processor to convert one or more of the plurality of recordings to corresponding spectral representations where the at least two recordings are separated by a time gap, calculate a spectral average based, at least in part, on the spectral representations, store the spectral average to the memory, and generate a data packet based, at least in part, on the spectral average. The example apparatus also includes a transceiver to transmit the data packet to another device to compare the spectral average to a baseline spectral average to determine a system condition.

Claims (50)

a memory;

a processor to:

convert at least two recordings of the plurality of recordings to corresponding spectral representations, wherein the at least two recordings are separated by a time gap,

calculate a spectral average based, at least in part, on the spectral representations,

a transceiver to transmit the data packet to another device to compare the spectral average to a baseline spectral average to determine a system condition.

2. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the system condition is a condition related to a utility system and the another device is a remote server or an endpoint coupled to a utility meter of the utility system.

3. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the system condition corresponds to a condition of a pipe of a fluid delivery system.

4. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the processor is to select one or more times to record the plurality of recordings based, at least in part, on one or more of a time of day, one or more previous recordings, and one or more previous spectral representations.

5. The apparatus as defined in claim 4 , wherein the processor is to transmit the selected one or more times to record the plurality of recordings to an external device.

6. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the sensor includes an accelerometer.

7. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the sensor is a vibrational sensor, an acoustic sensor, or a sound sensor.

8. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the sensor is a pressure sensor or a temperature sensor.

9. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the processor is to exit an off power state based upon a supply of power from an external device and to return to the off power state after the transceiver transmits the data packet.

10. A method comprising:

recording, at a sensor, a plurality of recordings;

converting, at a processor, at least two recordings of the plurality of recordings to corresponding spectral representations, wherein the at least two recordings are separated by a time gap;

calculating, at the processor, a spectral average based, at least in part, on the spectral representations;

generating, at the processor, a data packet based, at least in part, on the spectral average; and

transmitting the data packet to another device to compare the spectral average to a baseline spectral average to determine a system condition.

11. The method as defined in claim 10 , wherein comparing the spectral average to the baseline spectral average includes subtracting the baseline spectral average from the spectral average.

12. The method as defined in claim 10 , further including rejecting one or more of the plurality of recordings prior to calculating the spectral average.

13. The method as defined in claim 12 , wherein the rejecting the one or more of the plurality of recordings includes rejecting the one or more of the plurality of recordings based on a corresponding noise level.

14. The method as defined in claim 12 , further including directing the sensor to record additional recordings based, at least in part, on the rejection of the one or more of the plurality of recordings.

15. The method as defined in claim 10 , further including updating the baseline spectral average based, at least in part, on the spectral average.

16. The method as defined in claim 10 , further including selecting one or more times to record the plurality of recordings based, at least in part, on one or more of a time of day, one or more previous recordings, and one or more previous spectral representations.

17. The method as defined in claim 16 , further including transmitting the selected one or more times to record the plurality of recordings to an external device.

18. The method as defined in claim 10 , further including encoding a bias flag into the data packet based, at least in part, on a number of recordings of the plurality of recordings being less than a threshold number.

19. The method as defined in claim 10 , further including:

determining a spectral energy of at least one spectral representation of the spectral representations; and

applying a weighting factor to the at least one spectral representation based on the spectral energy, wherein the spectral average is calculated based, at least in part, on the weighting factor.

20. The method as defined in claim 10 , wherein the system condition is a condition related to a utility system and the another device is a remote server or an endpoint coupled to a utility meter of the utility system.

21. The method as defined in claim 10 , wherein the system condition corresponds to a condition of a pipe of a fluid delivery system.

22. A non-transitory tangible machine readable medium comprising instructions, which when executed, cause a processor to at least:

convert at least two recordings of a plurality of recordings to corresponding spectral representations, wherein the at least two recordings are separated by a time gap;

calculate a spectral average based, at least in part, on the spectral representations;

generate a data packet based, at least in part, on the spectral average, and

cause a transceiver to transmit the data packet to another device to compare the spectral average to a baseline spectral average to determine a system condition.

23. The non-transitory machine readable medium as defined in claim 22 , wherein the instructions cause the processor to reject one or more of the plurality of recordings prior to calculating the spectral average.

24. The non-transitory machine readable medium as defined in claim 22 , wherein the instructions cause the processor to update the baseline spectral average based, at least in part, on the spectral average.

25. The non-transitory machine readable medium as defined in claim 22 , wherein the instructions cause the processor to select one or more times to record the plurality of recordings based, at least in part, on one or more of a time of day, one or more previous recordings, and one or more previous spectral representations.

26. The non-transitory machine readable medium as defined in claim 22 , wherein the instructions cause the processor to encode a bias flag into the data packet based, at least in part, on a number of recordings of the plurality of recordings being less than a threshold number.
