Abstract

A computer-implemented method for managing thermal qualities of a vehicle. The method comprises determining one or more factors associated with a trip to be taken by a vehicle. The method comprises estimating future thermal load based on the determined factors for one or more components of the vehicle. The method comprises generating an optimal thermal management plan based on the estimated future thermal load for the one or more components. The method comprises performing thermal management of the one or more components based on the optimal thermal management plan.

Claims (35)

1 . A computer-implemented method for managing thermal qualities of a vehicle, the method comprising performing operations as follows on a processor of a computer system:

determine one or more factors associated with a trip to be taken by the vehicle;

estimate a future thermal load based on the determined factors for one or more components of the vehicle;

generate an optimal thermal management plan based on the estimated future thermal load for the one or more components; and

perform thermal management of the one or more components based on the optimal thermal management plan.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the factors comprise one or more of route information, weather forecast information, traffic information, driver information, and vehicle information.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising updating the optimal thermal management plan based on an updated estimated future thermal load.

4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising performing thermal management of the one or more components based on the updated optimal thermal management plan.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein performing thermal management of the one or more components comprises switching between active and passive cooling systems.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein performing thermal management of the one or more components comprises switching between a high-efficiency heat pump cycle and a high-voltage heater.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the optimal thermal management plan based on the estimated future thermal load for the one or more components comprises executing an optimization algorithm in real-time using a vehicle simulator during the trip.

8 . A system, comprising:

a processor; and

a computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform steps comprising:

determining one or more factors associated with a trip to be taken by a vehicle;

estimating a future thermal load based on the determined factors for one or more components of the vehicle;

generating an optimal thermal management plan based on the estimated future thermal load for the one or more components; and

performing thermal management of the one or more components based on the optimal thermal management plan.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the factors comprise one or more of route information, weather forecast information, traffic information, driver information, and vehicle information.

10 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising updating the optimal thermal management plan based on an updated estimated future thermal load.

11 . The system of claim 10 , further comprising performing thermal management of the one or more components based on the updated optimal thermal management plan.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein performing thermal management of the one or more components comprises switching between active and passive cooling systems.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein performing thermal management of the one or more components comprises switching between a high-efficiency heat pump cycle and a high-voltage heater.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein generating the optimal thermal management plan based on the estimated future thermal load for the one or more components comprises executing an optimization algorithm in real-time using a vehicle simulator during the trip.

15 . A computer program product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising computer readable program code embodied therewith, the computer readable program code, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to perform steps comprising:

determining one or more factors associated with a trip to be taken by a vehicle;

estimating a future thermal load based on the determined factors for one or more components of the vehicle;

generating an optimal thermal management plan based on the estimated future thermal load for the one or more components; and

performing thermal management of the one or more components based on the optimal thermal management plan.

16 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the factors comprise one or more of route information, weather forecast information, traffic information, driver information, and vehicle information.

17 . The computer program product of claim 15 , further comprising updating the optimal thermal management plan based on an updated estimated future thermal load.

18 . The computer program product of claim 17 , further comprising performing thermal management of the one or more components based on the updated optimal thermal management plan.

19 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein performing thermal management of the one or more components comprises switching between active and passive cooling systems.

20 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein performing thermal management of the one or more components comprises switching between a high-efficiency heat pump cycle and a high-voltage heater.
