Abstract

Techniques for displaying a payment page based on the proximity of a payment device to a client computing device are described. One example method includes receiving, at a client computing device, a signal when the client computing device is within a predetermined range of a source of the signal; determining, by the client computing device, that the signal is a predetermined characteristic signal sent by an electronic device of a payee; and in response to determining that the received signal is the predetermined characteristic signal, displaying, by the client computing device, a payment page configured to be read by the electronic device of the payee to perform an electronic payment.

Claims (42)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, at a client computing device of a user, a signal sent by a first electronic device of a payee for an electronic payment, wherein the signal is an acoustic signal or an optical signal;

in response to receiving the signal, determining, by the client computing device, that the first electronic device is within a predetermined range of the client computing device;

analyzing, by the client computing device, the signal to determine that the signal includes a predetermined characteristic, wherein the predetermined characteristic is a predetermined frequency of the acoustic signal or a predetermined wavelength of the optical signal;

determining, by the client computing device, that the signal includes the predetermined characteristic; and

in response to determining that 1) the first electronic device is within the predetermined range of the client computing device, and 2) the signal includes the predetermined characteristic, displaying, by the client computing device, a payment page configured to be read by the first electronic device of the payee to perform the electronic payment.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined range is formed by using the client computing device as a center and using a predetermined distance as a radius, and wherein the predetermined distance has a range from 0 to 1 meter.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined range comprises (i) an angular range around a normal to a surface of a display screen, the angular range represented by an angle between the normal to the surface of the display screen and a line intersecting the normal at the surface, wherein the angle is between 10 and 90 degrees, and (ii) a predetermined distance from the display screen.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the signal is a first signal, and the method further comprises:

receiving, at the client computing device, a second signal sent by a second electronic device that is different from the first electronic device;

determining, by the client computing device, that the second electronic device is within the predetermined range of the client computing device;

determining, by the client computing device, that the second signal does not include the predetermined frequency of the acoustic signal or the predetermined wavelength of the optical signal; and

in response to determining that the second signal does not include the predetermined characteristic, ignoring, by the client computing device, the second signal.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining that the signal is a request sent from a payee for obtaining a payment authorization code, wherein the payment page includes the payment authorization code associated with a user of the client computing device.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the payment page includes a Quick Response (QR) code associated with the electronic payment.

7. A non-transitory, computer-readable medium storing one or more instructions executable by a computer system to perform operations for displaying a payment page, the operations comprising:

receiving, at a client computing device of a user, a signal sent by a first electronic device of a payee for an electronic payment, wherein the signal is an acoustic signal or an optical signal;

in response to receiving the signal, determining, by the client computing device, that the first electronic device is within a predetermined range of the client computing device;

analyzing, by the client computing device, the signal to determine that the signal includes a predetermined characteristic, wherein the predetermined characteristic is a predetermined frequency of the acoustic signal or a predetermined wavelength of the optical signal;

determining, by the client computing device, that the signal includes the predetermined characteristic; and

in response to determining that 1 ) the first electronic device is within the predetermined range of the client computing device, and 2 ) the signal includes the predetermined characteristic, displaying, by the client computing device, a payment page configured to be read by the first electronic device of the payee to perform the electronic payment.

8. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the predetermined range is formed by using the client computing device as a center and using a predetermined distance as a radius, and wherein the predetermined distance has a range from 0 to 1 meter.

9. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the predetermined range comprises (i) an angular range around a normal to a surface of a display screen, the angular range represented by an angle between the normal to the surface of the display screen and a line intersecting the normal at the surface, wherein the angle is between 10 and 90 degrees, and (ii) a predetermined distance from the display screen.

10. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the signal is a first signal, and the operations further comprise:

receiving, at the client computing device, a second signal sent by a second electronic device that is different from the first electronic device;

determining, by the client computing device, that the second electronic device is within the predetermined range of the client computing device;

determining, by the client computing device, that the second signal does not include the predetermined frequency of the acoustic signal or the predetermined wavelength of the optical signal; and

in response to determining that the second signal does not include the predetermined characteristics, ignoring, by the client computing device, the second signal.

11. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 7 , the operations further comprising:

determining that the signal is a request sent from a payee for obtaining a payment authorization code, wherein the payment page includes the payment authorization code associated with a user of the client computing device.

12. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the payment page includes a Quick Response (QR) code associated with the electronic payment.

13. A computer-implemented system for displaying a payment page, comprising:

one or more computers; and

one or more computer memory devices interoperably coupled with the one or more computers and having tangible, non-transitory, machine-readable media storing one or more instructions that, when executed by the one or more computers, perform one or more operations comprising:

receiving, at a client computing device of a user, a signal sent by a first electronic device of a payee for an electronic payment, wherein the signal is an acoustic signal or an optical signal;

in response to receiving the signal, determining, by the client computing device, that the first electronic device is within a predetermined range of the client computing device;

analyzing, by the client computing device, the signal to determine that the signal includes a predetermined characteristic, wherein the predetermined characteristic is a predetermined frequency of the acoustic signal or a predetermined wavelength of the optical signal;

determining, by the client computing device, that the signal includes the predetermined characteristic; and

in response to determining that 1 ) the first electronic device is within the predetermined range of the client computing device, and 2 ) the signal includes the predetermined characteristic displaying, by the client computing device, a payment page configured to be read by the first electronic device of the payee to perform the electronic payment.

14. The computer-implemented system of claim 13 , wherein the predetermined range is formed by using the client computing device as a center and using a predetermined distance as a radius, and wherein the predetermined distance has a range from 0 to 1 meter.

15. The computer-implemented system of claim 13 , wherein the predetermined range comprises (i) an angular range around a normal to a surface of a display screen, the angular range represented by an angle between the normal to the surface of the display screen and a direction represented by a line intersecting the normal on at the surface, wherein the angle is between 10 and 90 degrees, and (ii) a distance from the client computing device to the display screen as a predetermined distance from the display screen, and wherein the angle is 10 and 90 degrees.
