Abstract

A control system receives signals representing a presence and position of a secondary movement system onboard a vehicle. The secondary movement system changes movement of the vehicle without generating thrust or propulsion to move the vehicle. The control system creates a schedule of use of the secondary movement system based on the presence and position of the secondary movement system and controls the secondary movement system based on the schedule that is created.

Claims (39)

1. A control system comprising:

a control unit electrically coupled to a vehicle that is an aircraft or a marine vessel having a propulsion system that generates thrust or propulsion to move the vehicle, the control unit having one or more processors and configured to receive one or more signals representing a respective presence and position of one or more secondary movement systems onboard the vehicle, the one or more secondary movement systems configured to change movement of the vehicle without generating thrust or propulsion to move the vehicle; and

a set of instructions stored in a non-transient medium accessible by the one or more processors, the instructions configured to control the one or more processors to:

create a schedule that manages use of the one or more secondary movement systems based on the presence and position of the one or more secondary movement systems; and

control the one or more secondary movement systems based on the schedule that is created.

2. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft and the one or more secondary movement systems include an aileron coupled to a wing of the aircraft and a motor configured to control a position of the aileron.

3. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft and the one or more secondary movement systems include a rudder of the aircraft and a motor configured to control a position of the rudder.

4. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft and the one or more secondary movement systems include an elevator of the aircraft and a motor configured to control a position of the elevator.

5. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a motor that raises or lowers a propeller of the primary propulsion system.

6. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a trim plate and a motor that moves the trim plate to control a trim of the marine vessel.

7. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a trim plate and a motor that moves the trim plate to control a trim of the marine vessel.

8. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a motor that raises or lowers a propeller of the primary propulsion system.

9. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include one or more of a bow thruster or a stern thruster that generates thrust to rotate the marine vessel.

10. A control system comprising:

a control unit electrically coupled to a vehicle having a propulsion system that generates thrust or propulsion to move the vehicle, the control unit having one or more processors and configured to receive one or more signals representing a respective presence and position of one or more secondary movement systems onboard the vehicle, the one or more secondary movement systems configured to change movement of the vehicle without generating thrust or propulsion to move the vehicle; and

a set of instructions stored in a non-transient medium accessible by the one or more processors, the instructions configured to control the one or more processors to:

create a schedule that manages use of the one or more secondary movement systems based on the presence and position of the one or more secondary movement systems; and

control the one or more secondary movement systems based on the schedule that is created,

wherein the one or more secondary movement systems include one or more of:

an aileron controlled by a first motor to change a roll of the vehicle,

a rudder controlled by a second motor to change a yaw of the vehicle,

an elevator controlled by a third motor to change a pitch of the vehicle,

a trim plate controlled by a fourth motor to change a trim of the vehicle,

a side thruster, bow thruster, or stern thruster to rotate the vehicle, or

a fifth motor to raise or lower a propeller of the propulsion system.

11. The control system of claim 10 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft.

12. The control system of claim 10 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel.

13. A method comprising:

determining a presence of one or more secondary movement systems of a vehicle that is an aircraft or a marine vessel having a propulsion system that generates thrust or propulsion to move the vehicle, the one or more secondary movement systems configured to change movement of the vehicle without generating thrust or propulsion to move the vehicle;

determining a position of the one or more secondary movement systems onboard the vehicle;

creating a schedule that manages use of the one or more secondary movement systems based on the presence and position of the one or more secondary movement systems; and

controlling the one or more secondary movement systems based on the schedule that is created.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft and the one or more secondary movement systems include an aileron coupled to a wing of the aircraft and a motor configured to control a position of the aileron.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft and the one or more secondary movement systems include a rudder of the aircraft and a motor configured to control a position of the rudder.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft and the one or more secondary movement systems include an elevator of the aircraft and a motor configured to control a position of the elevator.

17. The method of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a motor that raises or lowers a propeller of the primary propulsion system.

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a trim plate and a motor that moves the trim plate to control a trim of the marine vessel.

19. The method of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a trim plate and a motor that moves the trim plate to control a trim of the marine vessel.

20. The method of claim 13 , wherein the vehicle is a marine vessel and the one or more secondary movement systems include a motor that raises or lowers a propeller of the primary propulsion system.
