Abstract

According to the present disclosure, devices, systems, and methods for locating, tracking, and conducting communications between care devices and networks of care facilities through local communications hubs.

Claims (26)

1. A patient care communications system for communication with a hospital network of a care facility, the system comprising:

a plurality of communications hubs including at least one communications hub installed within a room of the care facility, the room equipped with a first nurse call communications system as a preferred nurse call communications system and at least two communications hubs arranged within another room of the care facility, the other room equipped with a second nurse call communications system that is different from the first nurse call communications system as a non-preferred nurse call communications system, each of the preferred and non-preferred nurse call communications systems configured for operation as standalone nurse call communications systems operating independently from each other, and

a number of patient care devices each including communication circuitry configured to communicate signals with at least one of the plurality of communication hubs,

wherein a first of the at least two communications hubs arranged within the other room of the care facility equipped with the non-preferred nurse call communications system is in communication with the non-preferred nurse call communications system and a second of the at least two communications hubs is in communication with the hospital network of the care facility apart from the non-preferred nurse call communications system, wherein the first of the at least two communications hubs is blocked against independent communication with the hospital network and is configured to communicate with the hospital network only through the second of the at least two communications hubs.

2. The patient care communication system of claim 1 , wherein the at least two communications hubs includes at least three communications hubs, and the first communications hub communicates with the second communications hub through an intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs.

3. The patient care communication system of claim 2 , wherein the intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs is arranged to communicate with the hospital network of the care facility only indirectly through the second communications hub.

4. The patient care communications system of claim 1 , wherein the second of the at least two communications hubs communicates with the non-preferred nurse call communications system through the first of the at least two communications hubs.

5. The patient care communication system of claim 4 , wherein the at least two communications hubs includes at least three communications hubs, and the second communications hub communicates with the first communications hub through an intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs.

6. The patient care communication system of claim 5 , wherein the intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs is arranged to communicate with the non-preferred nurse call communications system only indirectly through the first communications hub.

7. The patient care communication system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the patient care devices is a patient bed.

8. A patient care communications system for communication with a hospital network of a care facility, the system comprising:

a plurality of communications hubs including at least two communications hubs installed within a room of the care facility, the room equipped with a non-preferred nurse call communications system, and

a number of patient care devices each including communication circuitry configured to communicate signals with at least one of the plurality of communication hubs,

wherein a first of the at least two communications hubs arranged within the room of the care facility equipped with the non-preferred nurse call communications system is configured for communication with the non-preferred nurse call communications system and a second of the at least two communications hubs is configured for communication with the hospital network of the care facility apart from the non-preferred nurse call system, wherein the first of the at least two communications hubs is blocked against independent communication with the hospital network and is configured for communication with the hospital network only through the second of the at least two communications hubs.

9. The patient care communications system of claim 8 , wherein the second of the at least two communications hubs communicates with the non-preferred nurse call communications system through the first of the at least two communications hubs.

10. The patient care communication system of claim 8 , wherein the at least two communications hubs includes at least three communications hubs.

11. The patient care communication system of claim 10 , wherein at least one of the at least three communications hubs is arranged to communicate with the non-preferred nurse call communications system through the first of the at least two communications hubs.

12. The patient care communication system of claim 11 , wherein the second communications hub is arranged to communicate with the non-preferred nurse call communications system through the first communications hub.

13. The patient care communication system of claim 12 , wherein the second communications hub is arranged to communicate with the first communications hub through an intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs.

14. The patient care communication system of claim 13 , wherein the intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs is arranged to communicate with the non-preferred nurse call communications system only indirectly through the first communications hub.

15. The patient care communications system of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the plurality of communication hubs is configured to communicate wirelessly with at least one of the number of patient care devices via bluetooth.

16. The patient care communication system of claim 10 , wherein at least two of the at least three communications hubs is arranged to communicate with the hospital network of the care facility through the second of the at least two communications hubs.

17. The patient care communication system of claim 10 , wherein the first communications hub is arranged to communicate with the second communications hub through an intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs.

18. The patient care communication system of claim 17 , wherein the intermediary one of the at least three communications hubs is arranged to communicate with the hospital network of the care facility only indirectly through the second communications hub.

19. The patient care communications system of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the plurality of communication hubs is configured to communicate wirelessly with at least one of the number of patient care devices.

20. The patient care communication system of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the patient care devices is a patient bed.
