Abstract

A sunscreen composition comprised of one or more sunscreen active agents encapsulated in a cellulose derived capsule wherein the composition can contain one or more additional agents. A sunscreen composition can be mixed with a body wash, an after shower body lotion, a shampoo, a conditioner, a soap, a gel, a hand sanitizer, a cream, a spray, a mouse, a lotion, an ointment, a make-up product, a lip balm, a hair spray product, an arachnid/insect repellent or a medicinal product.

Claims (35)

1. A sunscreen composition comprising:

a first flexible cellulose derived capsule, the first flexible cellulose derived capsule comprising:

a) one or more UVA sunscreen active agents, each of the one or more UVA sunscreen active agents being in an amount of 3% or less of the total weight of the sunscreen composition,

b) one or more UVB sunscreen active agents, each of the one or more UVB sunscreen active agents being in an amount of 15% or less of the total weight of the sunscreen composition, and

c) one or more photostabilizing agents,

wherein the first flexible cellulose derived capsule comprises a flexible shell consisting essentially of cellulose, or a salt thereof; or a cellulose derivative, and

wherein the cellulose derivative is selected from the group consisting of: 1) ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof and 2) a derivative of hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof.

2. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more UVA sunscreen active agent includes a dibenzoylmethane.

3. The sunscreen composition according to claim 2 , wherein the dibenzoylmethane includes Avobenzone.

4. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more UVB sunscreen active agents includes a salicylate.

5. The sunscreen composition according to claim 4 , wherein the salicylate includes Homosalate and/or Octyl Salicylate.

6. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more photostabilizing agents is in an amount of about 0.1% to about 5.0% of the total weight of the sunscreen composition.

7. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more photostabilizing agents comprise a 4-methylbenzylidene camphor, a hindered amine light stabilizer, or a 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidine-based compound.

8. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , wherein the first flexible cellulose derived capsule further comprises a polyamide polymer.

9. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , wherein the first flexible cellulose derived capsule is in an amount of about 10% to about 40% of the total weight of the composition.

10. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , further comprising a second flexible cellulose derived capsule in an amount of about 0.01% to about 7% of the total weight of the composition, the second flexible cellulose derived capsule comprising a water-insoluble emollient comprising fatty acids,

wherein the second flexible cellulose derived capsule comprises a flexible shell consisting essentially of cellulose, or a salt thereof; or a cellulose derivative, and

wherein the cellulose derivative is selected from the group consisting of: 1) ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof and 2) a derivative of hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof.

11. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , further comprising a second flexible cellulose derived capsule in an amount of about 0.01% to about 7% of the total weight of the composition, the second flexible cellulose derived capsule comprising a silicone oil,

wherein the second flexible cellulose derived capsule comprises a flexible shell consisting essentially of cellulose, or a salt thereof; or a cellulose derivative, and

wherein the cellulose derivative is selected from the group consisting of: 1) ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof and 2) a derivative of hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof.

12. The sunscreen composition according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a) a flexible second cellulose derived capsule in an amount of about 0.01% to about 7% of the total weight of the composition, the second flexible cellulose derived capsule comprising a water-insoluble emollient comprising fatty acids,

wherein the second flexible cellulose derived capsule comprises a flexible shell consisting essentially of cellulose, or a salt thereof; or a cellulose derivative, and

wherein the cellulose derivative is selected from the group consisting of: 1) ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof and 2) a derivative of hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof; and

b) a third flexible cellulose derived capsule in an amount of about 0.01% to about 7% of the total weight of the composition, the third flexible cellulose derived capsule comprising a silicone oil,

wherein the third flexible cellulose derived capsule comprises a flexible shell consisting essentially of cellulose, or a salt thereof; or a cellulose derivative, and

wherein the cellulose derivative is selected from the group consisting of: 1) ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof and 2) a derivative of hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, combinations thereof and salts thereof.
