Abstract

Various embodiments are disclosed for a services policy communication system and method. In some embodiments, a communications device stores a set of device credentials for activating the communications device for a service on a network; and sends an access request to the network, the access request including the set of device credentials.

Claims (19)

1. A system, comprising:

a processor of a wireless communications device configured to:

store a first set of device credentials for activating the wireless communications device for a first service on a first wireless network;

send an access request to the first wireless network, the access request including the first set of device credentials;

provide a user interface having a plurality of privacy protection settings selectable by a user of the wireless communications device, the privacy protection settings specifying categories of service usage activity information that the device should not share with a network entity;

while accessing the first wireless network, monitor service usage activities on the wireless communications device, including the first service;

filter the monitored service usage activities according to the plurality of privacy protection settings to create a filtered service usage history report; and

securely transmit the filtered service usage history report to a network device;

and

a memory of the wireless communications device coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising the network device.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the network device comprises a service processor, and wherein securely transmit the filtered activity report to the network device comprises transmitting the filtered activity report over a service control link maintained between the wireless communications device and the service processor.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the network device comprises a server in an enterprise network, and wherein the wireless communications device is one of a group of corporate mobile devices associated with the enterprise network.

5. The system of claim 2 , wherein the network device comprises a secure data store to store the filtered service usage history report, and wherein the privacy protection settings further comprise limits and/or restrictions as to what entities can access information from the stored filtered service usage history report.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the secure data store stores information from a plurality of filtered service usage history reports associated with a plurality of users, the network device applying filtering rules to information in the data store in order to provide information associated with a group of the plurality of users to another network element.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitored service usage activities comprise an application usage profile.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the wireless communications device comprises a device user interface, and wherein the monitored service usage activities comprise a device user interface usage history.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitored service usage activities comprise at least one of an indication of times when a user of the device is working, times when a user of the device is playing, and times when a user of the device is inactive.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein configured to monitor service usage activities on the wireless communications device comprises at least one of configured to log network service usage at an application level, inspect network traffic at an application level, and log application usage at the application level.
