Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for deploying a cellular communication network, including basestation systems. A basestation system may include a plurality of femtocells comprising at least a first femtocell and a second femtocell, with the first femtocell being configured to support an operation in the second femtocell, and a first transmission from the first femtocell being coordinated with a second transmission from the second femtocell. The plurality of femtocells may also include a third femtocell, and a first reception by the first femtocell may be coordinated with a second reception by the third femtocell. The coordination of transmissions and/or receptions may be based on one or more of time, power, and frequency.

Claims (32)

1. A basestation system comprising:

a plurality of femtocells comprising at least a first femtocell and a second femtocell, wherein:

the first femtocell is operable to support an operation in a first coverage area corresponding to the second femtocell,

one or both of the first femtocell and the second femtocell is configured to concurrently support an operation in a second coverage area different from the first coverage area, and

a first transmission within the first coverage area from the first femtocell is coordinated with a second transmission within the first coverage area from the second femtocell.

2. The basestation system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second transmissions are coordinated in time.

3. The basestation system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second transmissions are coordinated in power.

4. The basestation system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second transmissions are coordinated in frequency.

5. The basestation system of claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of femtocells comprises a third femtocell, and

a first reception by the first femtocell is coordinated with a second reception by the third femtocell.

6. The basestation system of claim 5 , wherein the first and second receptions are coordinated in time.

7. The basestation system of claim 5 , wherein the first and second receptions are coordinated in power.

8. The basestation system of claim 5 , wherein the first and second receptions are coordinated in frequency.

9. The basestation system of claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of femtocells comprises a third femtocell, and

the first femtocell communicates with the second femtocell via multi-hop communication, and the third femtocell relays the multi-hop communication.

10. The basestation system of claim 1 , wherein the first femtocell communicates with the second femtocell wirelessly.

11. A method comprising:

operating a first femtocell of a basestation system to support an operation in a first coverage area corresponding to a second femtocell of the basestation system, wherein one or both of the first femtocell and the second femtocell is configured to concurrently support an operation in a second coverage area different from the first coverage area; and

coordinating a first transmission within the first coverage area from the first femtocell with a second transmission within the first coverage area from the second femtocell.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the coordinating comprises coordinating a timing of the first transmission with a timing of the second transmission.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the coordinating comprises coordinating a power of the first transmission with a power of the second transmission.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the coordinating comprises coordinating a frequency allocated to the first transmission with a frequency allocated to the second transmission.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the method comprises coordinating a first reception by the first femtocell with a second reception by a third femtocell of the basestation system.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the coordinating comprises coordinating a schedule of the first reception with a schedule of the second reception.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the coordinating comprises coordinating a power allocated to the first reception with a power allocated to the second reception.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the coordinating comprises coordinating a frequency allocated to the first reception with a frequency allocated to the second reception.

19. The method of claim 11 , wherein the method comprises:

communicating between the first femtocell and the second femtocell via multi-hop communication, and

relaying the multi-hop communication via a third femtocell of the basestation system.

20. The method of claim 11 , wherein the method comprises wirelessly communicating between the first femtocell and the second femtocell.
