Abstract

A method of generating a patient-specific prosthesis includes receiving anatomic imaging data representative of a portion of a patient's anatomy. A first digital representation of the anatomic imaging data is defined. The first digital representation of the anatomic imaging data is modified. A second digital representation of the portion of the patient's anatomy is defined based on the modifying of the first digital representation of the anatomic imaging data. A patient-specific prosthesis is generated based at least in part on the second digital representation of the anatomic imaging data.

Claims (21)

1. A method of generating a patient-specific prosthesis, comprising: receiving data representative of a first location of an anatomic feature of a patient's blood vessel, the blood vessel defining a centerline that is a sequence of points in three-dimensional space; modifying the data representative of the first location to represent the anatomic feature of the patient's blood vessel in a second location, wherein a low-order polynomial function is fitted to the points using a least squares fitting technique to produce a modified centerline, thereby predicting the second location of the anatomic feature of the patient's blood vessel, wherein the second location is different than the first location; and generating a patient-specific prosthesis having a fenestration at the second location.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein modifying the data representative of the first location is based on predicted deformation of the patient's blood vessel.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the predicted deformation of the patient's blood vessel is based on a property of a delivery device for delivering the patient-specific prosthesis to the patient.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the delivery device is a guide wire.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the delivery device is a catheter.

6. The method of claim 2 , wherein the predicted deformation of the patient's blood vessel is based on a property of the patient-specific prosthesis.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the property of the patient-specific prosthesis is the stiffness of the prosthesis.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the property of the patient-specific prosthesis is the diameter of the prosthesis.

9. The method of claim 2 , wherein the predicted deformation of the patient's blood vessel is based on an insertion location of the patient-specific prosthesis.

10. A method of generating a patient-specific prosthesis, comprising: receiving data representative of a first location of an anatomic feature of a patient's blood vessel, the patient's blood vessel defining a centerline that is a sequence of points in three-dimensional space; predicting a shift in the centerline of the patient's blood vessel based on the introduction of a medical device into the patient's blood vessel by fitting a low-order polynomial function to the points using a least squares analysis fitting technique to produce a modified centerline that is a prediction of the shape of the portion of the patient's anatomy after insertion of a graft; modifying the data representative of the first location of the anatomic feature to determine a second location of the anatomic feature of the patient's blood vessel based on the predicted shift in the centerline, the second location different than the first location; and generating a patient-specific prosthesis having a fenestration at the second location.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the medical device is a guide wire.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the medical device is a prosthesis.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the patient's blood vessel is an aorta.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the anatomic feature is a branch blood vessel.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the fenestration is configured to be aligned with the branch blood vessel after the patient-specific prosthesis has been implanted into the patient's aorta.

16. A method of generating a patient-specific prosthesis, comprising: receiving data representative of a first location of an anatomic feature of a patient's blood vessel, the patient's blood vessel defining a centerline that is a sequence of points in three-dimensional space; predicting a shift in the centerline of the patient's blood vessel based on the introduction of a medical device into the patient's blood vessel by fitting a low-order polynomial function to the points using a least squares analysis fitting technique to produce a modified centerline that is a prediction of the shape of the portion of the patient's anatomy after insertion of a graft; modifying the data representative of the first location of the anatomic feature to determine a second location of the anatomic feature of the patient's blood vessel based on the predicted shift in the centerline, the second location different than the first location; and receiving a stent graft, the stent graft having a fabric graft material disposed on a plurality of support struts; and forming a fenestration in the fabric graft material at the second location to generate a patient-specific prosthesis.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the fenestration is formed in the fabric graft material by at least one of a mechanical cutting process, a mechanical punching process, a laser cutting process, a water jet cutting process, and/or a drilling process.

18. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

coupling a radiopaque material to a portion of the patient-specific prosthesis.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the radiopaque material is disposed around the fenestration.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the second location is determined so that the fenestration can be formed in the fabric graft material in a region without the support struts.
