Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure describe systems and methods for automatically configuring, managing, updating, and/or monitoring the configuration of various computing resources and/or network devices within a communications network, such as a telecommunications network. Configuration code may be deployed to a repository for a cluster of computing resources and one or more layers may be defined describing configurable aspects of the cluster. Subsequently, a script may be identified and executed to configure the cluster based on the configuration code.

Claims (71)

1. A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to perform a set of operations, the set of operations comprising:

accessing configuration information that corresponds to a cluster of computing resources within a communication network and that defines a configuration for the cluster;

determining, for a first computing resource of the cluster of computing resources, a first configuration script from the configuration information, wherein the first configuration script comprises a set of instructions to configure the first computing resource, and wherein the set of instructions comprises at least:

a variable definition associated with a setting of the first computing resource; and

a configuration function associated with the first computing resource; and

providing, to the first computing resource, an indication to execute the first configuration script, thereby initiating configuration of the first resource of the cluster.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the set of operations further comprises:

determining, for a second computing resource of the cluster of computing resources, a second configuration script that is different from the first configuration script; and

providing, to the second computing resource, an indication to execute the second configuration script, thereby initiating configuration of the second resource of the cluster.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the first computing resource is a different type of computing resource from the second computing resource.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein:

the first computing resource is a type of computing resource; and

the second computing resource is the type of computing resource.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein:

the first configuration script for the first computing resource is for a first version of the type of computing resource; and

the second configuration script for the second computing resource is for a second version of the type of computing resource.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the first version and the second version are associated with a layer for the type of computing resource, selected from the group consisting of:

a hardware layer;

a bios layer;

an operating system layer; a network layer;

a system administrator layer; and

an application layer.

7. A method for configuring a cluster, comprising:

accessing configuration information that corresponds to a cluster of computing resources within a communication network and that defines a configuration for the cluster;

determining, for a first computing resource of the cluster of computing resources, a first configuration script from the configuration information, wherein the first configuration script comprises a set of instructions to configure the first computing resource, and wherein the set of instructions comprises at least:

a variable definition associated with a setting of the first computing resource; and

a configuration function associated with the first computing resource;

determining, for a second computing resource of the cluster of computing resources, a second configuration script to configure the second computing resource; and

providing, to the first computing resource, an indication to execute the first configuration script, thereby initiating configuration of the first resource of the cluster; and

providing, to the second computing resource, an indication to execute the second configuration script, thereby initiating configuration of the second resource of the cluster.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein:

the first computing resource is a different computing resource type than the second computing resource; and

the first configuration script is different from the second configuration script.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein:

the first computing resource and the second computing resource are a computing resource type;

the first configuration script for the first computing resource is for a first version of the computing resource type; and

the second configuration script for the second computing resource is for a second version of the computing resource type.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first version and the second version are associated with a layer for the computing resource type, selected from the group consisting of:

a hardware layer;

a bios layer;

an operating system layer;

a network layer;

a system administrator layer; and

an application layer.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein:

the first computing resource and the second computing resource are a computing resource type; and

the second configuration script comprises the set of instructions.

12. A method for configuring a cluster, comprising:

accessing configuration information that corresponds to a cluster of computing resources within a communication network and that defines a configuration for the cluster;

determining, for a first computing resource of the cluster of computing resources, a first configuration script from the configuration information, wherein the first configuration script comprises a set of instructions to configure the first computing resource, and wherein the set of instructions comprises at least:

a variable definition associated with a setting of the first computing resource; and

a configuration function associated with the first computing resource; and

providing, to the first computing resource, an indication to execute the first configuration script, thereby initiating configuration of the first resource of the cluster.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

determining, for a second computing resource of the cluster of computing resources, a second configuration script that is different from the first configuration script; and

providing, to the second computing resource, an indication to execute the second configuration script, thereby initiating configuration of the second resource of the cluster.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the first computing resource is a different type of computing resource than the second computing resource.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein:

the first computing resource is a type of computing resource; and

the second computing resource is the type of computing resource.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein:

the first configuration script for the first computing resource is for a first version of the type of computing resource; and

the second configuration script for the second computing resource is for a second version of the type of computing resource.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first version and the second version are associated with a layer for the type of computing resource, selected from the group consisting of:

a hardware layer;

a bios layer;

an operating system layer;

a network layer;

a system administrator layer; and an application layer.
