System, method, and apparatus for providing insights, and taking actions thereon, for contextually relevant user-specific content integrated with a third-party Personal Information Management (PIM) application within a cloud based computing environment

1. A method performed by a system having at least a processor and a memory therein, the method comprising:

displaying, by a Personal Information Management (PIM) application, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) comprising one or more display panes;

displaying, by the PIM application, PIM application content in the one or more display panes;

selecting the displayed PIM application content for which to obtain one or more insights, wherein an insight is a contextually relevant user-specific, time-dependent, actionable item of information regarding the selected displayed PIM application content;

receiving, from the PIM application, PIM application context data relating to the selected displayed PIM application content;

integrating, via a PIM integrator, information from a cloud computing service application into the PIM application;

generating, by an application other than the PIM application, the one or more insights to display in a context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data, wherein generating the one or more insights involves executing an app using the received PIM application context data to retrieve contextually relevant user-specific information, including predicted information, from sources other than the PIM application;

pushing the generated one or more insights to the context-specific display pane based on time elapsed since checking of an insights-feed in the context-specific display pane; and

displaying the generated one or more insights in the context-specific display pane.

The method of claim 1 , wherein generating by an application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in a context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises generating the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane, positioned next to the one or more PIM application display panes of the GUI, based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting the application other than the PIM application to generate the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data, and wherein generating, by the application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more of the display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises the selected application other than the PIM application generating the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more of the display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a mobile status of a user of the PIM application, and wherein generating, by the application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises generating, by the application other than the PIM application, the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data and further based on the mobile status of the user.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving user input to take an action that is contextually relevant to and based on the generated one or more insights displayed in the context specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the PIM application is selected from a group of PIM applications including a calendar application, an email application, a task management application, an account management application, and an opportunity management application.

7. Non-transitory computer readable storage media having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor of a system, the instructions cause the system to perform operations including:

displaying, by a Personal Information Management (PIM) application, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) comprising one or more display panes;

displaying, by the PIM application, PIM application content in the one or more display panes;

selecting the displayed PIM application content for which to obtain one or more insights, wherein an insight is a contextually relevant user-specific, time-dependent, actionable item of information regarding the selected displayed PIM application content;

receiving, from the PIM application, PIM application context data relating to the selected displayed PIM application content;

integrating, via a PIM integrator, information from a cloud computing service application into the PIM application;

generating, by an application other than the PIM application, the one or more insights to display in a context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data, wherein generating the one or more insights involves executing an app using the received PIM application context data to retrieve contextually relevant user-specific information, including predicted information, from sources other than the PIM application;

pushing the generated one or more insights to the context-specific display pane based on time elapsed since checking of an insights-feed in the context-specific display pane; and

displaying the generated one or more insights in the context-specific display pane.

The non-transitory computer readable storage media of claim 7 , wherein generating by an application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in a context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises generating the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane, positioned next to the one or more PIM application display panes of the GUI, based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data.

The non-transitory computer readable storage media of claim 7 , further comprising selecting the application other than the PIM application to generate the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data, and wherein generating, by the application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more of the display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises the selected application other than the PIM application generating the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more of the display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data.

The non-transitory computer readable storage media of claim 7 , further comprising receiving a mobile status of a user of the PIM application, and wherein generating, by the application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises generating, by the application other than the PIM application, the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data and further based on the mobile status of the user.

The non-transitory computer readable storage media of claim 7 , further comprising receiving user input to take an action that is contextually relevant to and based on the generated one or more insights displayed in the context specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI.

The non-transitory computer readable storage media of claim 7 , wherein the PIM application is selected from a group of PIM applications including a calendar application, an email application, a task management application, an account management application, and an opportunity management application.

13. A system comprising;

a processor;

a memory; and

system logic to cause the system to perform operations including:

displaying, by a Personal Information Management (PIM) application, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) comprising one or more display panes;

displaying, by the PIM application, PIM application content in the one or more display panes;

selecting the displayed PIM application content for which to obtain one or more insights, wherein an insight is a contextually relevant user-specific, time-dependent, actionable item of information regarding the selected displayed PIM application content;

receiving, from the PIM application, PIM application context data relating to the selected displayed PIM application content;

integrating, via a PIM integrator, information from a cloud computing service application into the PIM application;

generating, by an application other than the PIM application, the one or more insights to display in a context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data, wherein generating the one or more insights involves executing an app using the received PIM application context data to retrieve contextually relevant user-specific information, including predicted information, from sources other than the PIM application;

pushing the generated one or more insights to the context-specific display pane based on time elapsed since checking of an insights-feed in the context-specific display pane; and

displaying the generated one or more insights in the context-specific display pane.

The system of claim 13 , wherein generating by an application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in a context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises generating the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane, positioned next to the one or more PIM application display panes of the GUI, based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data.

The system of claim 13 , further comprising selecting the application other than the PIM application to generate the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data, and wherein generating, by the application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more of the display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises the selected application other than the PIM application generating the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more of the display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data.

The system of claim 13 , further comprising receiving a mobile status of a user of the PIM application, and wherein generating, by the application other than the PIM application the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data comprises generating, by the application other than the PIM application, the one or more insights to display in the context-specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI based on the selected displayed PIM application content and the received PIM application context data and further based on the mobile status of the user.

17. The system of claim 13 , further comprising receiving user input to take an action that is contextually relevant to and based on the generated one or more insights displayed in the context specific display pane associated with the one or more display panes of the GUI.

18. The system of claim 13 , wherein the PIM application is selected from a group of PIM applications including a calendar application, an email application, a task management application, an account management application, and an opportunity management application.
