Abstract

In embodiments of the present invention, a method and system is provided for commissioning improved intelligent, LED-based lighting systems. The LED based lighting systems may include fixtures with one or more LED light bars, integrated sensors, onboard intelligence to send and receive signals and control the LED light bars, and network connectivity to other fixtures.

Claims (87)

1. A system for controlling variable artificial lighting in an environment, the system comprising:

a first lighting fixture including at least a first sensor to obtain first sensor data;

a second lighting fixture including at least a second sensor to obtain second sensor data;

a third lighting fixture including at least a third sensor to obtain third sensor data;

a wireless network to couple the first lighting fixture, the second lighting fixture, and the third lighting fixture and thereby transmit the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data; and

at least one management module, operably coupled to the wireless network, to:

receive the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data via the wireless network;

analyze past patterns of the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data; and

transmit a single first instruction, via the wireless network, to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture to regulate the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture differently than the third lighting fixture, the single first instruction based at least in part on the analyzed past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data,

wherein:

each of the first sensor, the second sensor, and the third sensor includes an occupancy sensor;

the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data relate to an occupancy of the environment;

the past patterns of the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data are past patterns of the occupancy of the environment; and

the at least one management module transmits the single first instruction, via the wireless network, to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture to control the artificial lighting in the environment.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one management module transmits the single first instruction, via the wireless network, to regulate power provided to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one management module transmits the single first instruction, via the wireless network to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture, to change at least one of an intensity, a brightness, a color temperature, and a beam angle of at least some of the artificial lighting provided by the at least one of the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture based on the analyzed past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one management module transmits the single first instruction, via the wireless network to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture, to modify an amount of time during which the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture is turned on based on the analyzed past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the wireless network is a wireless mesh network.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein:

the first lighting fixture transmits the first sensor data to the second lighting fixture and receives the second sensor data from the second lighting fixture via the wireless mesh network; and

the second lighting fixture transmits the second sensor data to the first lighting fixture and receives the first sensor data from the first lighting fixture via the wireless mesh network.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the environment includes at least a first zone and a second zone;

the first lighting fixture including at least the first sensor to obtain the first sensor data is disposed in the first zone of the environment; and

the third lighting fixture including at least the third sensor to obtain the third sensor data is disposed in the second zone of the environment.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the first sensor data relates to a first occupancy in the first zone of the environment;

the third sensor data relates to a second occupancy in the second zone of the environment;

the past patterns of the first sensor data and the third sensor data include first past patterns of the first occupancy in the first zone of the environment and second past patterns of the second occupancy in the second zone of the environment; and

the at least one management module transmits at least the first instruction to the first lighting fixture to differently regulate the first lighting fixture and the third lighting fixture based at least in part on the analyzed first past patterns of the first sensor data and the analyzed second past patterns of the third sensor data.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein:

the environment includes a warehouse; and

at least one of the first zone and the second zone includes at least one aisle in the warehouse.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the wireless network is a wireless mesh network.

11. A method of controlling variable artificial lighting in an environment, the method comprising:

obtaining, by at least a first sensor of a first lighting fixture in the environment, first sensor data;

obtaining, by at least a second sensor of a second lighting fixture in the environment, second sensor data;

obtaining, by at least a third sensor of a third lighting fixture in the environment, third sensor data;

receiving, via a wireless network by at least one management module, the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data;

analyzing, by the at least one management module, past patterns of the first sensor data the second sensor data, and the third sensor data; and

transmitting, via the wireless network by the at least one management module to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture providing the variable artificial lighting in the environment, a single first instruction to regulate the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture, the single first instruction based at least in part on the analyzed past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data,

wherein:

the environment includes at least a first zone and a second zone;

the first lighting fixture is disposed in the first zone of the environment;

the third lighting fixture is disposed in the second zone of the environment; and

transmitting the single first instruction comprises transmitting the single first instruction to the first lighting fixture, via the wireless network, to differently regulate the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture compared to the third lighting lighting fixture based at least in part on the analyzed past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wireless network is a wireless mesh network.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising at least one of:

transmitting the first sensor data to the second lighting fixture; and

transmitting the second sensor data to the first lighting fixture.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein:

each of the first sensor, the second sensor, and the third sensor includes an occupancy sensor;

the first sensor data relates to a first occupancy in the first zone of the environment;

the third sensor data relates to a second occupancy in the second zone of the environment; and

the past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data include first past patterns of the first occupancy in the first zone of the environment and the third sensor data includes second past patterns of the second occupancy in the second zone of the environment.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein:

the environment includes a warehouse; and

at least one of the first zone and the second zone includes at least one aisle in the warehouse.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the wireless network is a wireless mesh network.

17. A system for controlling variable artificial lighting in an environment, the system comprising:

a first lighting fixture including at least a first sensor to obtain first sensor data;

a second lighting fixture including at least a second sensor to obtain second sensor data;

a third lighting fixture including at least a third sensor to obtain third sensor data;

a wireless network to couple the first lighting fixture, the second lighting fixture, and the third lighting fixture and thereby transmit the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data; and

at least one management module, operably coupled to the wireless network, to:

receive the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data via the wireless network;

analyze past patterns of the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data; and

transmit a single first instruction, via the wireless network, to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture to regulate at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture differently than the third lighting fixture based at least in part on the analyzed past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data,

wherein:

each of the first sensor, the second sensor, and the third sensor includes at least one of an electric current sensor, a voltage sensor and a power sensor;

the at least one management module analyzes the past patterns of the first sensor data the second sensor data, and the third sensor data to analyze past patterns of energy usage of the first lighting fixture, the second lighting fixture, and the third lighting fixture; and

the at least one management module transmits the single first instruction, via the wireless network, to control energy consumption of at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture based on the analyzed past patterns of energy usage of at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture.

18. A system for controlling variable artificial lighting in an environment, the system comprising:

a first lighting fixture including at least a first sensor to obtain first sensor data;

a second lighting fixture including at least a second sensor to obtain second sensor data;

a third lighting fixture including at least a third sensor to obtain third sensor data;

a wireless network to couple the first lighting fixture, the second lighting fixture, and the third lighting fixture and thereby transmit the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data; and

at least one management module, operably coupled to the wireless network, to:

receive the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data via the wireless network;

analyze past patterns of the first sensor data, the second sensor data, and the third sensor data; and

transmit a single first instruction, via the wireless network, to at least the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture to regulate the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture differently than the third lighting fixture based at least in part on the analyzed past patterns of the first sensor data and the second sensor data,

wherein:

each of the first sensor, the second sensor, and the third sensor includes an ambient light sensor to measure ambient lighting in the environment;

the ambient lighting in the environment includes at least one of:

at least some of the artificial lighting in the environment provided by the system; and

natural light in the environment; and

the at least one management module transmits the single first instruction, via the wireless network, to the first lighting fixture and the second lighting fixture, to vary the artificial lighting in the environment.
