Abstract

A golf club head, including a weight system including an adjustable weight including an aperture, the aperture dimensioned to receive a fastener, a bore formed in the sole, a fastener configured to pass through the aperture of the adjustable weight and engage the bore, wherein rotation of the adjustable weight alters the location of the center of gravity of the body, wherein the adjustable weight comprises a first engaging arm and a second engaging arm, wherein the sole of the golf club head comprises a first engagement member and a second engagement member, the first and second engagement members adapted to engage any one of the engaging arms when the adjustable weight is in the locked position, the first and second engagement members preventing the adjustable weight from rotating relative to the body.

Claims (56)

1 . A golf club head, comprising:

a body having a face, a sole, a crown, and a skirt joining said face, sole, and crown, the body having a center of gravity;

wherein said body comprises a coordinate system with an x-axis located horizontal to said face, a y-axis located vertical to said face, and a z-axis located through said face; and

a weight system configured to adjust the location of said center of gravity of said body;

wherein said weight system comprises:

an engagement arm comprising an aperture, said aperture dimensioned to receive a fastener;

a bore formed in said sole, said threaded bore configured to receive a fastener;

a fastener configured to pass through said aperture of said engagement arm and engage said bore; and

a weight member residing between said engagement arm and said sole;

wherein said sole comprises a recess comprising a sole surface and an encapsulating surface;

wherein rotation of said fastener in a first direction forces said engagement arm towards said sole such that said engagement arm deflects and forces said weight member into said recess, preventing said weight member from moving from a first position;

wherein rotation of said fastener in a second direction, opposite said first direction, forces said engagement arm away from said sole allowing said weight member to move to a second position;

wherein movement of said weight member alters said location of said center of gravity of said body.

2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein said bore is threaded and said fastener is threaded.

3 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein said weight member can be moved without completely removing said fastener from said bore.

4 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein said weight system comprises a second engagement arm, said second engagement arm extending away from said bore in a direction different than said engagement arm.

5 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein said sole comprises a second recess configured to receive said weight member.

6 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein rotation of said fastener in said first direction forces said engagement arm to wedge said weight member against said encapsulating surface.

7 . A golf club head, comprising:

a body having a face, a sole, a crown, and a skirt joining said face, sole, and crown, the body having a center of gravity;

wherein said body comprises a coordinate system with an x-axis located horizontal to said face, a y-axis located vertical to said face, and a z-axis located through said face; and

a weight system configured to adjust the location of said center of gravity of said body;

wherein said weight system comprises:

an engagement arm comprising an aperture, said aperture dimensioned to receive a fastener;

a bore formed in said sole, said threaded bore configured to receive a fastener;

a fastener configured to pass through said aperture of said engagement arm and engage said bore; and

a weight member residing between said engagement arm and said sole;

wherein said sole comprises a recess comprising an undercut formed in said sole;

wherein rotation of said fastener in a first direction forces said engagement arm towards said sole such that said engagement arm forces said weight member into said recess, preventing said weight member from moving from a first position;

wherein rotation of said fastener in a second direction, opposite said first direction, forces said engagement arm away from said sole allowing said weight member to move to a second position;

wherein movement of said weight member alters said location of said center of gravity of said body.

8 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said bore is threaded and said fastener is threaded.

9 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said weight member can be moved without completely removing said fastener from said bore.

10 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said weight system comprises a second engagement arm, said second engagement arm extending away from said bore in a direction different than said engagement arm.

11 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein rotation of said fastener in said first direction forces said engagement arm to wedge said weight member against said undercut.

12 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein rotation of said fastener in said first direction causes said engagement arm to deflect.

13 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said weight member is affixed to said engagement arm.

14 . A golf club head, comprising:

a body having a face, a sole, a crown, and a skirt joining said face, sole, and crown, the body having a center of gravity;

wherein said body comprises a coordinate system with an x-axis located horizontal to said face, a y-axis located vertical to said face, and a z-axis located through said face; and

a weight system configured to adjust the location of said center of gravity of said body;

wherein said weight system comprises:

an engagement arm comprising an aperture, said aperture dimensioned to receive a fastener;

a bore formed in said sole, said threaded bore configured to receive a fastener;

a fastener configured to pass through said aperture of said engagement arm and engage said bore; and

a weight member residing between said engagement arm and said sole;

wherein said sole comprises a first recess and a second recess, each comprising a sole surface and an encapsulating surface;

wherein rotation of said fastener in a first direction forces said engagement arm towards said sole such that said engagement arm selectively forces said weight member into said first recess or said second recess, preventing said weight member from moving;

wherein rotation of said fastener in a second direction, opposite said first direction, forces said engagement arm away from said sole allowing said weight member to move;

wherein movement of said weight member alters said location of said center of gravity of said body.

15 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein said bore is threaded and said fastener is threaded.

16 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein said weight member can be moved without completely removing said fastener from said bore.

17 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein said weight system comprises a second engagement arm, said second engagement arm extending away from said bore in a direction different than said engagement arm.

18 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein rotation of said fastener in said first direction forces said engagement arm to wedge said weight member against said encapsulating surface.

19 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein rotation of said fastener in said first direction causes said engagement arm to deflect.

20 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein said weight member is affixed to said engagement arm.
