Abstract

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus main body, a process cartridge, a scanner unit, and a toner cartridge. The process cartridge is detachably mounted on the apparatus main body. The process cartridge includes: a photosensitive drum configured to rotate about a rotational axis extending in a first direction; and a development unit configured to supply toner to the photosensitive drum. The toner cartridge is configured to store toner. At least part of the photosensitive drum, at least part of the scanner unit, and at least part of the toner cartridge are aligned in a second direction in this order. The second direction is perpendicular to both the first direction and to a vertical direction. The at least part of the photosensitive drum, the at least part of the scanner unit, and the at least part of the toner cartridge overlap one another as viewed from the second direction.

Claims (45)

1. An image forming apparatus comprising:

an apparatus main body;

a process cartridge detachably mounted on the apparatus main body, the process cartridge including:

a photosensitive drum configured to rotate about a rotational axis extending in a first direction; and

a development unit configured to supply toner to the photosensitive drum;

a scanner unit; and

a toner cartridge configured to store toner,

at least part of the photosensitive drum, at least part of the scanner unit, and at least part of the toner cartridge being aligned in a second direction in this order, the second direction being perpendicular to both the first direction and to a vertical direction, and

the at least part of the photosensitive drum, the at least part of the scanner unit, and the at least part of the toner cartridge overlapping one another as viewed from the second direction,

wherein the process cartridge further includes a toner conveyance pipe configured to convey toner from the toner cartridge to the development unit; and

wherein the toner conveyance pipe overlaps at least part of the scanner unit as viewed from the first direction.

2. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the toner cartridge includes a toner container configured to store toner and a waste-toner container configured to store waste toner, the toner container and the waste-toner container being formed integrally.

3. The image forming apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the process cartridge includes:

a drum cleaner configured to collect waste toner from the photosensitive drum; and

a waste-toner conveyance pipe configured to convey the waste toner collected by the drum cleaner to the waste-toner container; and

wherein the waste-toner conveyance pipe overlaps at least part of the scanner unit as viewed from the first direction.

4. The image forming apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein the process cartridge includes a grip portion extending in the first direction;

wherein one end of the grip portion is fixed to an end of the toner conveyance pipe that is away from the photosensitive drum in the second direction; and

wherein an other end of the grip portion is fixed to an end of the waste-toner conveyance pipe that is away from the photosensitive drum in the second direction.

5. The image forming apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the process cartridge includes a protrusion portion;

wherein the apparatus main body includes a guide configured to engage the protrusion portion and to guide the process cartridge to be mounted onto the apparatus main body and guide the process cartridge to be detached from the apparatus main body;

wherein the scanner unit has an upper surface; and

wherein the upper surface is configured to guide the protrusion portion to the guide when the process cartridge is placed on the upper surface for mounting the process cartridge.

6. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the process cartridge includes a pair of side frames configured to support the photosensitive drum, the pair of side frames being provided at both ends in the first direction;

wherein the development unit is configured to swingably move relative to the pair of side frames;

wherein the development unit has a reception port configured to receive toner from the toner conveyance pipe;

wherein the toner conveyance pipe has a supply port configured to communicate with the reception port; and

wherein a seal member having elasticity is disposed between the reception port and the supply port.

7. The image forming apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the pair of side frames includes a first side frame and a second side frame; and

wherein the reception port is disposed at an opposite side, in the first direction, from the second side frame with respect to the first side frame.

8. The image forming apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the development unit includes an extension portion at which a reception port is formed, the reception port being configured to receive toner from the toner conveyance pipe; and

wherein the first side frame is formed with a through hole in which the extension portion is inserted with a gap.

9. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the scanner unit includes a polygon mirror configured to deflect light for exposing the photosensitive drum.

10. An image forming apparatus comprising:

an apparatus main body;

a process cartridge detachably mounted on the apparatus main body, the process cartridge including:

a photosensitive drum configured to rotate about a rotational axis extending in a first direction; and

a development unit configured to supply toner to the photosensitive drum;

a scanner unit and

a toner cartridge configured to store toner,

at least part of the photosensitive drum, at least part of the scanner unit, and at least part of the toner cartridge being aligned in a second direction in this order, the second direction being perpendicular to both the first direction and to a vertical direction, and

the at least part of the photosensitive drum, the at least part of the scanner unit, and the at least part of the toner cartridge overlapping one another as viewed from the second direction,

wherein the toner cartridge is formed in an inverted “L” shape as viewed from the first direction and is arranged to cover an upper side and a front side of the scanner unit, the front side of the scanner unit being a side facing the toner cartridge in the second direction.

The image forming apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the toner cartridge includes a toner container configured to store toner and a waste-toner container configured to store waste toner, the waste-toner container being arranged at the front side of the scanner unit, the toner container extending from an upper side of the waste-toner container to the upper side of the scanner unit.

12. The image forming apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the scanner unit includes a polygon mirror configured to deflect light for exposing the photosensitive drum.
