Abstract

Provided are a method executed by user equipment (UE), UE, and a base station. The method includes: receiving from the base station a first Radio Resource Control (RRC) message containing a handover command; storing a handover configuration included in the first RRC message; and managing the handover configuration. Before receiving the RRC message containing the handover command, the UE still maintains communication with a source base station before a handover is executed, thus shortening data transmission interruption time.

Claims (41)

1. A method executed by a user equipment (UE), comprising:

transmitting, to a base station, a message to indicate that the UE is capable of performing a conditional handover without requiring to receive a command from the base station to perform the conditional handover;

receiving, from the base station, one or more conditional handover configurations, each of the one or more conditional handover configurations including:

information associated with a corresponding one of a plurality of neighboring cells, and

a handover condition comprising a measurement event based on a signal quality of at least one of a serving cell and the corresponding one of the plurality of neighboring cells;

storing the one or more conditional handover configurations;

performing handover monitoring according to one or more handover conditions of the one or more conditional handover configurations;

after the UE determines that a handover condition of one conditional handover configuration of the one or more conditional handover configurations is met, performing the conditional handover to handover to one of the plurality of neighboring cells associated with the one conditional handover configuration, wherein the conditional handover is performed by the UE without receiving any additional command for performing the conditional handover from the base station; and

releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations when the executing of the handover is successfully completed, wherein:

each of the one or more handover conditions is configured by a measurement identifier that is used to indicate a measurement report configuration associated with each of the one or more handover conditions,

the measurement report configuration comprises information used to indicate the measurement report configuration is associated with one of the one or more handover conditions, and

the UE does not perform a measurement report associated with the measurement report configuration.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein:

releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations is based on an identifier that is included in a received Radio Resource Control (RRC) message, and

the identifier is used to release a corresponding conditional handover configuration of the stored one or more conditional handover configurations.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations comprises:

releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations upon receiving a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message that is used to indicate to the UE to transition to an RRC inactive state.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations comprises:

releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations upon detecting a radio link failure.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the message comprises a UEcapabilityinformation message.

6. A user equipment (UE), comprising:

a transmission unit configured to transmit, to a base station, a message to indicate that the UE is capable of performing a conditional handover without requiring to receive a command from the base station to perform the conditional handover;

a receiving unit configured to receive, from the base station, one or more conditional handover configurations, each of the one or more conditional handover configurations including:

information associated with a corresponding one of a plurality of neighboring cells, and

a handover condition comprising a measurement event based on a signal quality of at least one of a serving cell and the corresponding one of the plurality of neighboring cells;

a storage unit configured to store the one or more conditional handover configurations;

a handover unit configured to:

perform handover monitoring according to one or more handover conditions of the one or more conditional handover configurations, and

after the UE determines that a handover condition of one conditional handover configuration of the one or more conditional handover configurations is met, perform the conditional handover to handover to one of the plurality of neighboring cells associated with the one conditional handover configuration, wherein the conditional handover is performed without receiving any additional command from the base station for performing the conditional handover; and

a management unit configured to release the stored one or more conditional handover configurations when the executing of the handover is successfully completed, wherein:

each of the one or more handover conditions is configured by a measurement identifier that is used to indicate a measurement report configuration associated with each of the one or more handover conditions,

the measurement report configuration comprises information used to indicate the measurement report configuration is associated with one of the one or more handover conditions, and

the UE does not perform a measurement report associated with the measurement report configuration.

7. The UE according to claim 6 , wherein:

releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations is based on an identifier that is included in a received Radio Resource Control (RRC) message, and

the identifier is used to release a corresponding conditional handover configuration of the stored one or more conditional handover configurations.

8. The UE according to claim 6 , wherein releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations comprises:

releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations upon receiving a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message that is used to indicate to the UE to transition to an RRC inactive state.

9. The UE according to claim 6 , wherein releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations comprises:

releasing the stored one or more conditional handover configurations upon detecting a radio link failure.

10. The UE according to claim 6 , wherein the message comprises a UEcapabilityinformation message.
