Abstract

A DJ media player is provided. The DJ media player has a control wheel used to control audio playback and a customizable first electronic display located about the center of the platter for displaying a graphic. The DJ media player has a second electronic display to show audio playback information. The graphic is dynamically updated. The graphic corresponds to at least one of a logo, an artist, an album, a song playback information, or a selection made by a user.

Claims (37)

1. A DJ media player comprising:

a control wheel used to control audio playback; and

a customizable first electronic display located on the center of the control wheel and configured for displaying a graphic;

wherein the graphic comprises audio playback information and a visual depicting any of an artist name, album name, tempo, key signature, album artwork, artist image, logo, trademark, or any combination thereof, associated with a currently selected or playing audio file,

wherein the graphic further comprises audio-track control information comprising a percent by which a track length is being modified, and

wherein the audio playback information and the visual are dynamically updated with the currently selected or playing audio file,

wherein the control wheel is rotatable and comprises:

(1) a first radial portion that, when rotated, executes a first playback function on the currently selected or playing audio file, wherein the first playback function updates the audio playback information comprised in the graphic, and

(2) a second radial portion that, when rotated, executes a second playback function on the currently selected or playing audio file, wherein the second playback function generates a sound effect,

wherein the first radial portion is a first layer of the control wheel and the second radial portion is a second layer of the control wheel, and wherein the audio playback information is radially positioned around the customizable first electronic display.

2. The DJ media player of claim 1 , further comprising a second electronic display, different from the customizable first electronic display, to show the audio playback information.

3. The DJ media player of claim 1 , wherein the graphic comprises a video.

4. The DJ media player of claim 1 , wherein the audio playback is on an external device.

5. A control wheel used to control audio playback comprising:

a customizable electronic display located on the center of the control wheel configured for displaying a graphic of audio-track control information comprising a percent by which a track length is being modified, a portion of an audio track already played, and a portion of an audio track unplayed, wherein the graphic further comprises a visual depicting any of an artist name, album name, tempo, key signature, album artwork, artist image, logo, trademark, or any combination thereof, associated with a currently playing track or a selected track; and

wherein the audio-track control information and the visual are dynamically updated with the currently playing track or the selected track,

wherein the control wheel is rotatable and comprises:

(1) a first radial portion that, when rotated, executes a first playback function on the currently playing track or the selected track, wherein the first playback function updates the audio-track control information comprised in the graphic, and

(2) a second radial portion that, when rotated, executes a second playback function on the currently playing track or the selected track, wherein the second playback function generates a sound effect,

wherein the first radial portion is a first layer of the control wheel and the second radial portion is a second layer of the control wheel, and wherein the audio-track control information is radially positioned around the customizable electronic display.

6. The control wheel of claim 5 , wherein the audio-track control information comprises a virtual audio playhead position which is dynamically updated relative to a visual representation of a portion of a track.

7. The control wheel of claim 6 , wherein the visual representation of the portion of a track defines a perimeter and wherein the virtual audio playhead position moves one of clockwise or counterclockwise about the perimeter.

8. The control wheel of claim 7 , wherein the virtual audio playhead position moves around the perimeter at a rate of any of 33⅓, 45, or 78 revolutions per minute (RPM).

9. The control wheel of claim 7 , wherein as the virtual audio playhead position moves around the perimeter the visual representation indicates a portion of an audio track already played and a portion of the audio track unplayed.

10. The control wheel of claim 5 , wherein the audio-track control information further comprises a number of semitones by which the currently playing track or the selected track is being pitch-bent.

11. A DJ media player comprising:

a control wheel used to control audio playback; and

a customizable first electronic display located on the center of the control wheel and configured for displaying a graphic comprising audio-track control information comprising a percent by which a track length is being modified and a virtual audio playhead position which is dynamically updated relative to a visual representation of a portion of a track;

wherein the visual representation of the portion of a track defines a perimeter and the virtual audio playhead position moves about the perimeter at a rate of any of 33⅓, 45, or 78 revolutions per minute (RPM);

wherein the graphic further comprises a visual depicting any of an artist name, album name, tempo, key signature, album artwork, artist image, logo, trademark, or any combination thereof, associated with a currently playing track or a selected track; and

wherein the audio-track control information and the visual are dynamically updated with the currently playing track or the selected track,

wherein the control wheel is rotatable and comprises:

(1) a first radial portion that, when rotated, executes a first playback function on the currently playing track or the selected track, wherein the first playback function updates the audio-track control information comprised in the graphic, and

(2) a second radial portion that, when rotated, executes a second playback function on the currently playing track or the selected track, wherein the second playback function generates a sound effect,

wherein the first radial portion is a first layer of the control wheel and the second radial portion is a second layer of the control wheel, and wherein the audio-track control information is radially positioned around the customizable first electronic display.

12. The DJ media player of claim 11 , wherein as the virtual audio playhead position moves around the perimeter the visual representation indicates a portion of an audio track already played and a portion of the audio track unplayed.

13. The DJ media player of claim 11 , wherein the virtual audio playhead position moves one of clockwise or counterclockwise about the perimeter.
