Abstract

An intraluminal sensing system is provided. The intraluminal sensing system includes a patient interface module (PIM) in communication with an intraluminal device comprising a physiologic sensor and positioned within a body lumen of a patient, a wireless router via a signal link, and a computing device in wireless communication with the wireless router, wherein the PIM comprises a processing component configured to receive a sensor signal from the physiologic sensor; and determine physiologic data based on at least the sensor signal; and a power and communication component configured to receive power from the signal link; and transmit, to the computing device via the signal link and the wireless router, the physiologic data.

Claims (99)

1. An apparatus, comprising:

an intraluminal device comprising a physiologic sensor configured to provide a sensor signal;

a patient interface module (PIM);

a first cable; and

a first system comprising a first display;

wherein the PIM is configured for communication with the intraluminal device via the first cable,

wherein the PIM is configured for communication with a wireless router via a signal link,

wherein the PIM is configured for communication with the first system and a second system via the signal link and the wireless router,

wherein the PIM comprises:

a housing;

a processing component disposed within the housing and configured to:

receive the sensor signal from the physiologic sensor;

determine physiologic data based on at least the sensor signal such that:

the physiologic data is different than the sensor signal itself; and

the physiologic data is determined within the PIM and not the first system or the second system; and

format the physiologic data into a format usable by both the first system and the second system to display the physiologic data respectively on the first display and a second display of the second system; and

a communication component disposed within the housing and configured to transmit the formatted physiologic data to the first system and the second system via the signal link and the wireless router such that the sensor signal itself is not transmitted to the first system and the second system,

wherein the PIM is communicatively positioned between the first system and the intraluminal device and between the second system and the intraluminal device, and

wherein the PIM, the first system, and the second system are different and spaced from one another,

wherein the first system is configured to:

provide a user interface to control the physiologic sensor to provide the sensor signal;

transmit, via the PIM, a control signal to the physiologic sensor in response to a user input received at the user interface; and

display the formatted physiologic data received from the PIM on the first display,

wherein the second system is configured to display the formatted physiologic data received from the PIM on the second display.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 ,

wherein the communication component is further configured to receive the control signal from the first system via the signal link and the wireless router, and

wherein the processing component is further configured to receive the sensor signal based on at least the control signal.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 ,

wherein the communication component is further configured to receive the control signal from the first system via the signal link and the wireless router, and

wherein the processing component is further configured to determine the physiologic data based on the control signal.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the PIM further includes a memory coupled to the processing component and configured to store the physiologic data.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the PIM further includes a display coupled to the processing component and configured to display the physiologic data.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processing component is further configured to determine the physiologic data by:

determining, based on the sensor signal, a flow-related value.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the physiologic sensor comprises at least one of a pressure sensor or a flow sensor.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the PIM further comprises a patient isolation circuit coupled between the communication component and the processing component.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a second cable, wherein the signal link comprises the second cable,

wherein the PIM and the intraluminal device are configured to be directly connected via the first cable such that the sensor signal is transmitted from the intraluminal device to the PIM by wired communication,

wherein the PIM and the wireless router are configured to be directly connected via the second cable such that the sensor signal is transmitted from the PIM to the wireless router by wired communication, and

wherein the PIM is configured to be indirectly in communication with the first system via the second cable and the wireless router such that the sensor signal is transmitted from the PIM to the first system by wired communication from the PIM to wireless router and by wireless communication from the wireless router to the first system.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processing component comprises:

a microcontroller;

a field programmable gate array (FPGA); and

an application processor.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 ,

wherein the microcontroller is coupled to the FPGA,

wherein the microcontroller is configured to execute control firmware stored in a memory,

wherein the FPGA includes one or more analog-to-digital converters (ADCs),

wherein the sensor signal comprises an analog sensor signal,

wherein the ADCs are configured to receive the analog sensor signal and convert the analog sensor signal to a digital sensor signal, and wherein the FPGA is configured to perform signal conditioning on the digital sensor signal to generate a conditioned sensor signal,

wherein the application processor is coupled to the FPGA, and

wherein the application processor is configured to generate the physiologic data from the conditioned sensor signal.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 ,

wherein the processing component is configured to perform signal conditioning on the sensor signal to generate a conditioned sensor signal,

wherein the signal conditioning comprises at least one of signal amplification, filtering, or noise reduction,

wherein the processing component is configured to determine the physiologic data based on the conditioned sensor signal such that the determination of the physiologic data is different than the signal conditioning.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the communication component is further configured to receive power from the signal link.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the communication component is further configured to provide the power received from the signal link to the physiologic sensor of the intraluminal device.

15. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the communication component is further configured to provide the power received from the signal link to the processing component.

16. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first system and the second system each comprise a different one of:

a control system;

a console system; or

a hemodynamic system.

17. The apparatus of claim 16 ,

wherein the second system comprises the hemodynamic system, and

wherein the communication component is further configured to receive, from the hemodynamic system via the signal link and the wireless router, a proximal pressure measurement relative to a narrowing of a blood vessel, and

wherein the processing component is further configured to determine the physiologic data by:

determining, based on the sensor signal, a distal pressure measurement relative to the narrowing of the blood vessel; and

determine a pressure ratio based on the proximal pressure measurement and the distal pressure measurement.

18. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first system and the second system do not format the physiological data.

19. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein generating the physiological data and formatting the physiological data occur entirely within the PIM and not within the first system and the second system.

20. A method of performing physiologic sensing, comprising:

providing, by a first system comprising a first display, a user interface to control a physiologic sensor of an intraluminal sensing device to provide a sensor signal;

transmitting, by the first system, via a patient interface module (PIM), a control signal to the physiologic sensor in response to a user input received at the user interface, wherein the PIM is communicatively positioned between the first system and the intraluminal sensing device and between a second system and the intraluminal sensing device, and wherein the PIM, the first system, and the second system are different and spaced from one another;

receiving, by a processing component disposed within a housing of the PIM, the sensor signal via a cable;

determining, by the processing component, physiologic data based on at least the sensor signal such that:

the physiologic data is different than the sensor signal itself; and

the physiologic data is determined within the PIM and not the first system or the second system;

formatting, by the processing component, the physiologic data into a format usable by both the first system and the second system to display the physiologic data respectively on the first display and a second display of the second system;

transmitting, by a communication component, the formatted physiologic data to the first system and the second system via a signal link and wireless router such that the sensor signal itself is not transmitted to the first system and the second system;

displaying, by the first system, the formatted physiological data received from the PIM on the first display, and

displaying, by the second system, the formatted physiological data received from the PIM on the second display.

21. The method of claim 20 ,

further comprising receiving, by the PIM, the control signal from the first system via the signal link and the wireless router,

wherein the receiving the sensor signal includes receiving the sensor signal based on at least the control signal.

22. The method of claim 20 ,

further comprising receiving, by the PIM, the control signal from the first system via the signal link and the wireless router,

wherein the determining the physiologic data includes determining the physiologic data further based on at least the control signal.

23. The method of claim 20 , wherein the determining the physiologic data includes determining a flow-related value.

24. The method of claim 20 , wherein the first system and the second system each comprise a different one of:

a control system;

a console system; or

a hemodynamic system.

25. The method of claim 24 , wherein the second system is a hemodynamic system, and

wherein the method further comprises receiving, by the PIM, a proximal pressure measurement relative to a narrowing of a blood vessel from the hemodynamic system via the signal link and the wireless router,

wherein the determining the physiologic data includes:

determining a distal pressure measurement relative to the narrowing of the blood vessel based on the sensor signal; and

determining a pressure ratio based on the proximal pressure measurement and the distal pressure measurement.
