Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion having a top portion, a bottom portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a front portion, a rear portion, and an interior. The golf club head may include a first plurality of ports and a second plurality of ports in the bottom portion. A first set of inner support portions may be connected to the first plurality of ports, and a second set of inner support portions may be connected to the second plurality of ports. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (36)

1. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a top portion, a bottom portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a front portion, a rear portion, and an interior;

a first plurality of ports extending through an outer surface of the bottom portion;

a second plurality of ports extending through the outer surface of the bottom portion;

a first set of inner support portions projecting into the interior from an inner surface of the bottom portion, the first set of inner support portions comprising a first inner support portion extending from a first port of the first plurality of ports toward a perimeter of the body portion, and a second inner support portion extending from a second port of the first plurality of ports toward the perimeter of the body portion;

a second set of inner support portions projecting into the interior from the inner surface of the bottom portion, the second set of inner support portions comprising a first inner support portion extending from a first port of the second plurality of ports toward a perimeter of the body portion, and a second inner support portion extending from a second port of the second plurality of ports toward the perimeter of the body portion; and

an elastic polymer insert on the inner surface of the bottom portion, the elastic polymer insert extending between the first plurality of ports and the second plurality of ports.

2. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising an outer support portion defined by a channel on the outer surface of the bottom portion.

3. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising an outer support portion defined by a groove on the outer surface of the bottom portion.

4. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising an outer support portion surrounding the first plurality of ports and the second plurality of ports.

5. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising a plurality of weight portions, wherein each port of the first plurality of ports and the second plurality of ports is configured to receive a weight portion of the plurality of weight portions.

6. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein a port of the first plurality of ports is associated with a port diameter and a port axis, the port axis being perpendicular to a plane tangent to the outer surface at an intersection of the port axis and the outer surface.

7. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein a minimum distance between the first plurality of ports and the rear portion is less than a minimum distance between the first plurality of ports and the front portion, and the minimum distance between the second plurality of ports and the front portion is less than a minimum distance between the second plurality of ports and the rear portion.

8. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a top portion, a bottom portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a front portion, a rear portion, and an interior;

a first plurality of ports extending through an outer surface of the bottom portion, wherein a minimum distance between the first plurality of ports and the rear portion is less than a minimum distance between the first plurality of ports and the front portion;

a second plurality of ports extending through the outer surface of the bottom portion, wherein a minimum distance between the second plurality of ports and the front portion is less than a minimum distance between the second plurality of ports and the rear portion;

a first set of inner support portions projecting into the interior from an inner surface of the bottom portion, the first set of inner support portions comprising: a first inner support portion extending from a first port of the first plurality of ports toward a rear perimeter of the body portion; and a second inner support portion extending from a second port of the first plurality of ports toward the rear perimeter of the body portion; and

a second set of inner support portions projecting into the interior from the inner surface of the bottom portion, the second set of inner support portions comprising a first inner support portion extending from a first port of the second plurality of ports to a second port of the second plurality of ports.

9. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , the first set of inner support portions further comprising a third inner support portion extending from a third port of the first plurality of ports toward the rear perimeter of the body portion.

10. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising an elastic polymer insert on the inner surface of the bottom portion, the elastic polymer insert extending between the first plurality of ports and the second plurality of ports.

11. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the first plurality of ports comprises at least three adjacent ports, and wherein each port of the at least three adjacent ports of the first plurality of ports is separated from an adjacent port of the first plurality of ports by less than or equal to a port diameter of any port of the first plurality of ports.

12. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising an outer support portion surrounding the first plurality of ports and the second plurality of ports.

13. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a plurality of weight portions, wherein each port of the first plurality of ports and the second plurality of ports is configured to receive a weight portion of the plurality of weight portions.

14. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the first plurality of ports extends between the toe portion and the heel portion, and the second plurality of ports extends between the toe portion and the heel portion.

15. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a top portion, a bottom portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a front portion, a rear portion, a skirt portion, and an interior;

a first plurality of ports extending through an outer surface of the bottom portion, wherein a minimum distance between the first plurality of ports and the rear portion is less than a minimum distance between the first plurality of ports and the front portion;
