Abstract

A Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) agent on a Self-Service Terminal (SST) coordinates with a BIOS credential manager that determines when to communicate a BIOS credential for the SST and when to re-generate and re-set a new BIOS credential for the SST.

Claims (18)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, over a network connection and on a Self-Service Terminal (SST), an instruction to set a credential for accessing a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) of the SST; and

interacting with an interface to the BIOS to change an existing credential to the credential for accessing the BIOS by processing the instruction on the SST, automatically re-flashing the BIOS, invaliding a previous credential set on the SST that allowed access to the BIOS based on the instruction and the re-flashing, and ensuring by the re-flashing that the credential is required for accessing the BIOS on the SST.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving further includes sending configuration information relevant to a configuration of the SST to a credential manager prior to receiving the credential, wherein the credential manager randomly generates the credential from the configuration information.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising, re-flashing the BIOS in memory after setting the credential for accessing the BIOS.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising, providing access to a service engineer when the service engineer provides the credential through an interface to the BIOS on the SST, wherein the service engineer does not obtain the credential supplied through the interface from the SST or any resource available on the SST.

5. The method of claim 4 further comprising, sending a notice when a session between the SST and the service engineer ends to a credential manager.

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising, receiving a new credential for the BIOS from the credential manager.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising, setting the new credential for accessing the BIOS on the SST and re-flashing the BIOS in memory of the SST.

8. A Self-Service Terminal (SST), comprising:

a processor comprising a hardware processor and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions; and

the executable instructions are executed by the hardware processor and cause the hardware processor to perform processing comprising:

communicating configuration information for the SST over a network to a credential manager;

receiving a credential for accessing a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) from the credential manager;

replacing an existing credential for accessing the BIOS with the credential on the SST by automatically re-flashing the BIOS and invalidating the existing credential that was needed to access the BIOS based on the re-flashing, and making the credential required for accessing the BIOS on the SST based on the re-flahsing.

9. The SST of claim 8 , wherein the executable instructions are executed by the hardware processor and further cause the hardware processor to perform additional processing comprising:

re-flashing the BIOS in memory of the SST when the credential replaces the existing credential for accessing the BIOS.

10. The SST of claim 8 , wherein the SST is an ATM.
