Organosilane compounds and methods of making and using the same
Silane compounds derived from medium-chain fatty acids are generally disclosed herein. Methods of using such compounds, for example, as compatibilizing agents, are also disclosed herein, as well as methods of making such compounds, for example, from medium-chain fatty acids derived from natural oils.
1. A compound of formula (I):
wherein:
G 1 is —(CH 2 ) 9 —;
G 2 is —CH 2 — or C(O);
R 1 is an organosilane moiety;
R 2 is —NH—R 4 ,
wherein R 4 is a moiety of formula (III):
-G 3 -N + (R 21 )(R 22 )-G 4 -R 23 (III)
wherein:
G 3 is C 1-12 alkylene;
G 4 is C 1-6 alkylene;
R 21 and R 22 are independently a hydrogen atom or C 1-20 alkyl; and
R 23 is a hydrogen atom or a phenyl moiety.
2. The compound of claim 1 , wherein G 2 is —CH 2 —.
3. The compound of claim 1 , wherein G 2 is C(O).
4. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the organosilane moiety is a moiety of formula (II):
—Si(R 11 )(R 12 )(R 13 )
wherein:
R 11 , R 12 , and R 13 are independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, —OH, C 1-12 alkyl, C 6-14 aryl, C 1-12 alkyloxy, or C 6-14 aryloxy, wherein at least one of R 11 , R 12 , and R 13 is C 1-12 alkyl, C 6-14 aryl, C 1-12 alkyloxy, or C 6-14 aryloxy.
5. The compound of claim 4 , wherein each of R 11 , R 12 , and R 13 is C 1-12 alkyloxy.
6. The compound of claim 5 , wherein each of R 11 , R 12 , and R 13 is selected independently from the group consisting of: methoxy, ethoxy, isopropoxy, propoxy, butoxy, sec-butoxy, isobutoxy, and tert-butoxy.
7. The compound of claim 6 , wherein each of R 11 , R 12 , and R 13 is ethoxy.
8. A compound of formula (I):
wherein:
G 1 is —(CH 2 ) 9 —, —(CH 2 ) 10 —, or —(CH 2 ) 11 —;
G 2 is —CH 2 — or C(O);
R 1 is an organosilane moiety;
R 2 is —NH—R 4 ,
wherein R 4 is a moiety of formula (III):
-G 3 -N + (R 21 )(R 22 )-G 4 -R 23 (III)
wherein:
G 3 is C 1-12 alkylene;
G 4 is C 1-6 alkylene;
R 21 and R 22 are independently a hydrogen atom or C 1-20 alkyl; and
R 23 is a hydrogen atom or a phenyl moiety,
wherein the organosilane moiety is a moiety of formula (II):
—Si(R 11 )(R 12 )(R 13 ) (II)
wherein:
R 11 , R 12 and R 13 is C 1-12 alkyloxy.
9. The compound of claim 8 , wherein each of R 11 , R 12 , and R 13 is selected independently from the group consisting of: methoxy, ethoxy, isopropoxy, propoxy, butoxy, sec-butoxy, isobutoxy, and tert-butoxy.
10. The compound of claim 9 , wherein each of R 11 , R 12 , and R 13 is ethoxy.
