Abstract

Systems and methods are presented for detecting users within a range of a media device. A detection region may be defined that is within the range of the media device and smaller than the range. The detection region may be stored. It may be determined whether a user is within the detection region. The media device may be activated and settings associated with the user may be applied when a user is within the detection region. In some embodiments, settings associated with a user may be compared to provided media content when the user is within the detection region. The content may change when the settings conflict with the media content. Reminders may be provided to or directed to a plurality of users within the range of the media device.

Claims (53)

1. A method for generating for display media content for users within a detection range of a media device, the method comprising:

detecting a first mobile device within a first detection region in the detection range of the media device, wherein the first detection region and the first mobile device are associated with a first user;

detecting a second mobile device within a second detection region in the detection range of the media device, wherein the second detection region and the second mobile device are associated with a second user;

responsive to detecting the first mobile device and the second mobile device, selecting, using the media device, an identifier of a first media content based on both a first profile associated with the first user and a second profile associated with the second user;

displaying, using a display of the media device, the selected first media content; and

generating for display, using the media device, an advertisement associated with the first user and the second user.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first profile comprises data associated with a previous media use of the first user, a previous view of media content by the first user, demographic information of the first user, a previous purchase of the first user, or any combination thereof.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

assigning a first weight to the first user;

assigning a second weight to the second user; wherein selecting the identifier of the first media content is based on the first weight and the second weight.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting the first mobile device within the first detection region is based on one or more user-specific parameters.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting a movement associated with the first mobile device;

updating the display of the media device based on the detected movement.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

responsive to detecting the first mobile device and the second mobile device, conducting, using the media device, a parental control check.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

updating the first user profile based on the identifier of the first media content and progress data associated with the display of the selected first media content.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media device is a first media device, the method further comprising:

storing a third profile associated with the first user on a second media device, wherein the third profile is different from the first profile.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by one or more processors of an electronic media device having a display, cause the electronic media device to:

detect a first mobile device within a first detection region in the detection range of the media device, wherein the first detection region and the first mobile device are associated with a first user;

detect a second mobile device within a second detection region in the detection range of the media device, wherein the second detection region and the second mobile device are associated with a second user;

responsive to detecting the first mobile device and the second mobile device, select, using the media device, an identifier of a first media content based on both a first profile associated with the first user and a second profile associated with the second user;

display, using the display of the media device, the selected first media content; and

generate for display, using the media device, an advertisement associated with the first user and the second user.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the first profile comprises data associated with a previous media use of the first user, a previous view of media content by the first user, demographic information of the first user, a previous purchase of the first user, or any combination thereof.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the instructions further cause the electronic device to:

assign a first weight to the first user;

assign a second weight to the second user; wherein selecting the identifier of the first media content is based on the first weight and the second weight.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein detecting the first mobile device within the first detection region is based on one or more user-specific parameters.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the instructions further cause the electronic device to:

detect a movement associated with the first mobile device;

update the display of the media device based on the detected movement.

14. An electronic device comprising:

one or more processors;

memory; and

one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs comprising instructions for:

detecting a first mobile device within a first detection region in the detection range of the electronic device, wherein the first detection region and the first mobile device are associated with a first user;

detecting a second mobile device within a second detection region in the detection range of the electronic device, wherein the second detection region and the second mobile device are associated with a second user;

responsive to detecting the first mobile device and the second mobile device, selecting, using the electronic device, an identifier of a first media content based on both a first profile associated with the first user and a second profile associated with the second user;

displaying, using a display of the electronic device, the selected first media content; and

generating for display, using the media device, an advertisement associated with the first user and the second user.

15. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein the first profile comprises data associated with a previous media use of the first user, a previous view of media content by the first user, demographic information of the first user, a previous purchase of the first user, or any combination thereof.

16. The electronic device of claim 14 , the one or more programs further comprising instructions for:

assigning a first weight to the first user;

assigning a second weight to the second user; wherein selecting the identifier of the first media content is based on the first weight and the second weight.

17. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein detecting the first mobile device within the first detection region is based on one or more user-specific parameters.

18. The electronic device of claim 14 , the one or more programs further comprising instructions for:

detecting a movement associated with the first mobile device;

updating the display of the electronic device based on the detected movement.

19. The electronic device of claim 14 , the one or more programs further comprising instructions for:

responsive to detecting the first mobile device and the second mobile device, conducting, using the electronic device, a parental control check.
