Abstract

A network distributed hybrid game system has a host for a hybrid game and a global betting manager. The host provides a real world credit meter and wagering results, an entertainment game, and interfaces with the global betting manager to provide side bets based on game data from the host and distributes results of side bets to the host that adjusts the real world credit meter.

Claims (38)

1 . A network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament, comprising:

a host for a hybrid game constructed to:

provide an entertainment game providing outcomes based upon a player's skillful execution of the entertainment game;

provide a tournament for the entertainment game using head-to-head competition;

generate a perceivable display of the entertainment game;

determine actions taken by the player during the player's skillful execution of the entertainment game;

generate a perceivable display of prospective side bets for the tournament; and

distribute to a global betting manager via a network, the side bet selection;

provide a real world credit meter;

trigger a wager of the amount of real world credit based on the actions taken by the player;

provide a randomly generated payout of real world credits for the wager of the amount of real world credits wherein the result is determined using a random number generator; and

adjust the real world credit meter based on an outcome from a side bet selection; and

the global betting manager connected to the host for the hybrid game by the network and constructed to:

receive, from the host for the hybrid game, the game state information;

determine, based on the game state information, the prospective side bets available during the tournament;

distribute the prospective side bets to the host for the hybrid game;

receive the side bet selection from the host for the hybrid game;

receive tournament results from the host for the hybrid game;

determine the outcome of the side bet selection; and

distribute the outcome of the side bet to the to the host for the hybrid game.

2 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the global betting manager is further constructed to:

receive player performance measurements for the player from the game world server;

determine eligibility of the player for play in a tournament;

assign a handicap for the tournament to the player; and

distribute information concerning tournament eligibility and the assigned handicap to the host for the hybrid game that configures the host for the hybrid game to implement the assigned handicap and tournament eligibility within the network distributed system for the hybrid game tournament.

3 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 2 , wherein the global betting manager is further constructed to determine that the player's performance measurements are a significant deviation from expected player performance measurements.

4 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 3 , wherein the determining that the player's performance measurements are a significant deviation from expected player performance measurements utilizes an outlier test.

5 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 4 , wherein the outlier test is the Grubb's outlier test.

6 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 4 , wherein the outlier test is the Dixon Q-test.

7 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 3 , wherein the global betting manager is further constructed to adjust the player's handicap upon determining that the player's performance measurements are a significant deviation from expected player performance measurements.

8 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 3 , wherein the expected player performance is based upon historical player performance measurements.

9 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the global betting manager is further constructed to distribute the prospective side bets to a non-player.

10 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the real world credit is a currency fungible instrument.

11 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the host for the hybrid game is a casino gaming machine.

12 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the host for the hybrid game is a personal computer.

13 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the host for the hybrid game is a gaming console.

14 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the host for the hybrid game is a smart phone.

15 . The network distributed system for a hybrid game tournament of claim 1 , wherein the host for the hybrid game is a wireless device.
