Abstract

A rechargeable device is disclosed. The rechargeable device may include an enclosure, a rechargeable battery cell, a constellation assembly, and charging circuitry. The enclosure may include a receptacle defining a longitudinal opening into the enclosure. The constellation assembly may include a diaphragm, a puck, and a contact point affixed to the puck and configured to engage an electrode of a charging pad surface. The charging circuitry may be configured to charge the battery cell based on electrical power received from the charging pad surface via the contact point. The receptacle may further permit movement of the puck and the affixed contact point along the longitudinal opening.

Claims (37)

1. A rechargeable device, comprising:

an enclosure comprising an outer surface and an opening that extends through the outer surface;

at least one rechargeable battery cell in the enclosure;

a constellation assembly that extends from an interior of the enclosure through the opening in the outer surface, the constellation assembly comprising a diaphragm, a puck, and a contact point affixed to the puck; and

charging circuitry coupled to the contact point and the at least one rechargeable battery cell, the charging circuitry configured to charge the at least one rechargeable battery cell based on electrical power received via the contact point;

wherein the diaphragm permits retraction of the puck and contact point toward the interior of the enclosure.

2. The rechargeable device of claim 1 , further comprising a resilient potting material along an interior surface of the puck, wherein the resilient potting material exerts a spring force upon the puck that biases the puck and the contact point away from the interior of the enclosure.

3. The rechargeable device of claim 1 , further including a spring that exerts a spring force that biases the puck and the contact point away from the interior of the enclosure.

4. The rechargeable device of claim 1 , wherein the diaphragm exerts a spring force that biases the puck and the contact point away from the interior of the enclosure.

5. The rechargeable device of claim 1 , further comprising a first wall that extends from the puck and mates with an inner surface of the opening.

6. The rechargeable device of claim 5 , further comprising a stop that extends radially from a distal end of the first wall and beyond the inner surface of the opening, wherein the stop prevents over extension of the puck through the opening.

7. The rechargeable device of claim 5 , wherein the enclosure comprises an internal surface positioned to engage a distal end of the first wall and prevent over compression of the puck into the interior of the enclosure.

8. The rechargeable device of claim 1 , further comprising a stop that radially extends from the puck and prevents over compression of the puck into the interior of the enclosure.

9. The rechargeable device of claim 1 , wherein the contact point is screwed into the puck.

10. The rechargeable device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a first wall that extends from the puck and mates with an inner surface of the opening;

a resilient arm that extends from the first wall and beyond the inner surface of the opening; and

a catch at a distal end of the resilient arm, wherein the catch is configured to engage a surface of the enclosure and prevent over extension of the puck through the opening.

11. A rechargeable device, comprising:

an enclosure comprising an outer surface and an opening that extends through the outer surface;

at least one rechargeable battery cell in the enclosure;

a puck;

a first wall extending from the puck and through the opening in the enclosure;

a plurality of contact points affixed to the puck; and

charging circuitry coupled to the plurality of contact points and the at least one rechargeable battery cell, the charging circuitry configured to charge the at least one rechargeable battery cell based on electrical power received via the plurality of contact points;

wherein the first wall permits retraction of the puck and the plurality of contact points toward an interior of the enclosure.

12. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , further comprising a resilient potting material along an interior surface of the puck, wherein the resilient potting material exerts a spring force upon the puck that biases the puck and the plurality of contact points away from the interior of the enclosure.

13. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , further including a spring that exerts a spring force that biases the puck and the plurality of contact points away from the interior of the enclosure.

14. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , wherein the first wall mates with an inner surface of the opening.

15. The rechargeable device of claim 14 , further comprising a seal between the first wall and the inner surface of the opening.

16. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , further comprising a stop that extends radially from a distal end of the first wall and beyond an inner surface of the opening, wherein the stop prevents over extension of the puck through the opening.

17. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , wherein the enclosure comprises an internal surface positioned to engage a distal end of the first wall and prevent over compression of the puck into the interior of the enclosure.

18. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , further comprising a stop that radially extends from the puck and prevents over compression of the puck into the interior of the enclosure.

19. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , wherein each contact point of the plurality of contact points is removably affixed to the puck.

20. The rechargeable device of claim 11 , further comprising:

a resilient arm that extends from the first wall and beyond an inner surface of the opening; and

a catch at a distal end of the resilient arm, wherein the catch is configured to engage a surface of the enclosure and prevent over extension of the puck through the opening.
