Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed to manage the enhanced medium access control-e (MAC-e) and enhanced MAC-es (MAC-es) resources. The method and apparatus comprise configuring an enhanced MAC-e entity in a Node-B for a common enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) resource in response to receiving an indication from a radio network controller (RNC), wherein the enhanced MAC-e entity in the Node-B operates with an enhanced MAC-es entity in the RNC.

Claims (32)

1 . A method implemented by a Node-B comprising:

configuring an enhanced MAC-e entity for a common enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) resource in response to receiving an indication from a radio network controller (RNC), wherein the enhanced MAC-e entity in the Node-B operates with an enhanced MAC-es entity in the RNC; and

transmitting data from the enhanced MAC-e entity to a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) over a common transport channel.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the enhanced MAC-e entity includes a controller, a de-multiplexor, and a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) entity.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the MAC-e entity in the Node-B and the MAC-es entity in the RNC operate as common entities associated with the WTRU.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the common entities are not associated with any other WTRU.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the enhanced MAC-e entity is a dedicated enhanced MAC-e entity maintained for the WTRU in communication with the Node-B.

6 . A Node-B comprising:

a processor; and

a transceiver,

wherein the processor is configured to configure an enhanced MAC-e entity for a common enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) resource in response to receiving an indication from a radio network controller (RNC), wherein the enhanced MAC-e entity in the Node-B operates with an enhanced MAC-es entity in the RNC; and

wherein the transceiver is configured to transmit data from the enhanced MAC-e entity to a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) over a common transport channel

7 . The Node-B of claim 6 , wherein the enhanced MAC-e entity includes a controller, a de-multiplexor, and a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) entity.

8 . The Node-B of claim 6 , wherein the MAC-e entity and the MAC-es entity operate as common entities associated with the WTRU.

9 . The Node-B of claim 8 , wherein the common entities are not associated with any other WTRU.

10 . The Node-B of claim 6 , wherein the enhanced MAC-e entity is a dedicated enhanced MAC-e entity maintained for the WTRU in communication with the Node-B.

11 . A method implemented in a radio network controller (RNC) comprising:

configuring an enhanced MAC-es entity for a common enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) resource, wherein the enhanced MAC-es entity in the RNC operates with an enhanced MAC-e entity in the Node-B; and

transmitting an indication to the Node-B to configure the enhanced MAC-e entity in the Node-B for the common E-DCH resource, wherein the Node-B is in communication with a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) using a common transport channel.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the enhanced MAC-es entity includes a disassembler, a reordering and queue distribution entity, a reordering entity, a reassembler and a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error detector.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the MAC-e entity in the Node-B and the MAC-es entity in the RNC operate as common entities associated with the WTRU.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the common entities are not associated with any other WTRU.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the enhanced MAC-es entity is a dedicated enhanced MAC-es entity maintained for the WTRU.

16 . A radio network controller (RNC) comprising:

a processor; and

a transceiver,

wherein the processor is configured to configure an enhanced MAC-es entity for a common enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) resource, wherein the enhanced MAC-es entity in the RNC operates with an enhanced MAC-e entity in the Node-B; and

wherein the transceiver is configured to transmit an indication to the Node-B to configure the enhanced MAC-e entity in the Node-B for the common E-DCH resource.

17 . The Node-B of claim 16 , wherein the enhanced MAC-es entity includes a disassembler, a reordering and queue distribution entity, a reordering entity, a reassembler and a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error detector.

18 . The Node-B of claim 16 , wherein the MAC-e entity in the Node-B and the MAC-es entity in the RNC operate as common entities associated with the WTRU.

19 . The Node-B of claim 18 , wherein the common entities are not associated with any other WTRU.

20 . The Node-B of claim 16 , wherein the enhanced MAC-es entity is a dedicated enhanced MAC-es entity maintained for the WTRU.
