Abstract

A crash-ready, portable, item compartmentalization device may include a shell which includes a first half shell and a second half shell. The first half shell and the second half shell may have substantially similar dimensions and define an interior space and an exterior space. One or more pouches may be removably coupled to the shell in the interior space. The crash-ready, portable, item compartmentalization device may be relocated throughout the interior of an emergency vehicle when used with an equipment mounting system or taken to the field for use away from the emergency vehicle. The individual pouches may also be removed and replaced with stocked pouches to replenish the crash-ready, portable, item compartmentalization device.

Claims (23)

1. A portable, item compartmentalization device for use with at least one removable pouch in an emergency vehicle, the portable, item compartmentalization device comprising:

a shell having a first half shell and second half shell hingedly coupled to one another;

at least one mount location coupled to an exterior wall of at least one of the first half shell and the second half shell, the at least one mount location configured to secure the shell to a surface wall of an emergency vehicle; and

at least two rows of two or more securing devices secured within an interior space of at least one of the first half shell and the second half shell, each one of the securing devices configured to releasably retain a removable pouch by way of a latch mechanism that forms an interference fit with a surface of the removable pouch.

2. The portable, item compartmentalization device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one mount location is selected from the group consisting of a hook, a mount stud, a wedge interface and combinations thereof.

3. The portable, item compartmentalization device of claim 2 , wherein the at least one mount location is formed on an impact area that is secured to an exterior wall of at least one of the first and second half shells.

The portable, item compartmentalization device of claim 1 , wherein the latch mechanism comprises a spring-biased latch with a latch handle and at least one latch tooth movably cooperative with one another to occupy either a retention position or a release position such that the at least one latch tooth protrudes into a corresponding one of the at least one latch aperture when the spring-biased latch is in the retention position in order to form the interference fit.

5. The portable, item compartmentalization device of claim 1 , wherein the securing devices define a generally planar plate surface.

6. The portable, item compartmentalization device of claim 1 , wherein the securing devices are secured within an interior space of both of the first half shell and the second half shell.

7. The portable, item compartmentalization device of claim 1 , further comprising a backing plate coupled on one side to at least one of the first half shell and the second half shell and on the other side to each of the securing devices.

The compartmentalization device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one restraint strap coupled to the first half shell and the second half shell such that when the at least one restraint strap is pulled taut, it cooperates with the first half shell and the second half shell to provide a tensioning force that will prevent the second half shell from moving relative to the first half shell when the shell is in the open position and an interior spaces of the respective first and second half shells are vertically aligned.

9. The portable, item compartmentalization device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one first handle formed at a peripheral edge of at least one of the first and second half shells.

10. A compartmentalization device assembly comprising:

a quick-mount track sized to be placed on a surface wall of an emergency vehicle; and

a portable, item compartmentalization device comprising:

a shell having a first half shell and second half shell hingedly coupled to one another;

at least one mount location coupled to an exterior wall of at least one of the first half shell and the second half shell, the at least one mount location configured to removably secure the shell to the quick-mount track; and

at least two rows of two or more securing devices secured within an interior space of at least one of the first half shell and the second half shell, each one of the securing devices configured to releasably retain a removable pouch by way of a latch mechanism that forms an interference fit with a surface the removable pouch.

11. The compartmentalization device assembly of claim 10 , wherein the quick-mount track defines a plurality of parallel slots formed in a surface thereof that is facingly adjacent the at least one mount location.

12. The compartmentalization device assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a wedge mount disposed between and removably secured to both of the quick-mount track and the at least one mount location.

13. The compartmentalization device assembly of claim 11 , wherein the at least one mount location comprises a mount stud configured to slidably couple with one of the plurality of parallel slots.

14. The compartmentalization device assembly of claim 11 , wherein the at least one mount location comprises a wedge interface configured to slidably couple with one of the plurality of parallel slots.

15. The compartmentalization device assembly of claim 14 , wherein the wedge interface is configured to engage a complementary-shaped aperture that is formed on the wedge mount.
