Abstract

Methods and systems for data collection in an environment including pumps and fans are disclosed. A monitoring system may include a data collector communicatively coupled to a plurality of input channels, wherein the input channels are communicatively coupled to sensors measuring operational parameters of a pump or fan. A data storage may store one or more frequencies related to an operation of the pump or fan, and a data acquisition circuit may interpret a plurality of detection values from the collected data. A frequency evaluation circuit may detect a signal on one of the input channels at a frequency higher than the one or more frequencies at which the pump or fan operates.

Claims (33)

1. A monitoring system for data collection in an environment comprising pumps, the system comprising:

a data collector communicatively coupled to a plurality of input channels, a subset of the plurality of input channels being communicatively coupled to sensors measuring operational parameters of a pump;

a data storage structured to store one or more frequencies related to an operation of the pump;

a data acquisition circuit structured to interpret a plurality of detection values from the collected data, each of the plurality of detection values corresponding to at least one of the plurality of input channels;

a frequency evaluation circuit structured to detect a signal on one of the plurality of input channels at a frequency higher than the one or more frequencies at which the pump operates;

a data analysis circuit structured to:

analyze at least two of the plurality of input channels, the at least two of the plurality of input channels being communicatively coupled to the sensors measuring operational parameters of the pump;

determine a relative phase offset between the at least two of the plurality of input channels; and

detect an anomalous condition in response to the determining the relative phase offset; and

a response circuit structured to perform an action on the pump based on:

the frequency evaluation circuit detecting the signal at the frequency higher than the one or more frequencies at which the pump operates; and

the data analysis circuit detecting the anomalous condition.

2. The monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein changes in energy at frequencies on an order of twice the one or more frequencies are indicative of a misalignment.

3. The monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein the signal indicates the anomalous condition.

4. The monitoring system of claim 3 , wherein the anomalous condition is a pre-failure mode condition for the pump.

5. The monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein:

the pump comprises a rotating component; and

the data analysis circuit is further structured to perform band-pass tracking associated with the rotating component to detect the anomalous condition.

6. The monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the input channels is connected to a vibration detection facility for detecting a noise pattern from the pump.

7. The monitoring system of claim 6 , wherein the frequency evaluation circuit is further structured to detect the signal on one of the plurality of input channels at frequencies higher than a frequency at which the pump rotates.

8. The monitoring system of claim 5 , wherein the detecting the anomalous condition comprises performing a frequency analysis at a selected multiple of a rotational speed of the rotating component.

9. The monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein the frequency evaluation circuit is further structured to perform a frequency analysis at a selected multiple of a rotational speed of the pump to detect the anomalous condition.

10. A method for collecting data in an environment comprising pumps, the method comprising:

collecting data from a plurality of input channels, a subset of the plurality of input channels being communicatively coupled to sensors measuring operational parameters of a pump;

storing one or more frequencies related to an operation of the pump;

interpreting a plurality of detection values from the collected data, each of the plurality of detection values corresponding to at least one of the plurality of input channels;

detecting a signal on one of the plurality of input channels at a frequency higher than the one or more frequencies at which the pump operates;

analyzing at least two of the plurality of input channels, the at least two of the plurality of input channels being communicatively coupled to the sensors measuring operational parameters of the pump;

determining a relative phase offset between the at least two of the plurality of input channels;

detecting an anomalous condition in response to the determining the relative phase offset; and

performing an action on the pump based on:

the detecting the signal at the frequency higher than the one or more frequencies at which the pump operates; and

the detecting the anomalous condition.
