Abstract

An intravascular support device includes a support or reshaper wire, a proximal anchor and a distal anchor. The support wire engages a vessel wall to change the shape of tissue adjacent the vessel in which the intravascular support is placed. The anchors and support wire are designed such that the vessel in which the support is placed remains open and can be accessed by other devices if necessary. The device provides a minimal metal surface area to blood flowing within the vessel to limit the creation of thrombosis. The anchors can be locked in place to secure the support within the vessel.

Claims (37)

1. A method of modifying the geometry of a mitral valve, comprising:

delivering a tissue shaping device to a coronary sinus;

deploying a distal anchor from a delivery device and into the coronary sinus to allow the expandable distal anchor to expand;

locking the distal anchor in a locked configuration;

applying a proximal cinching force to the distal anchor to reshape tissue;

while maintaining the proximal cinching force, deploying the proximal anchor from the delivery device to allow the proximal anchor to expand; and

locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration after allowing the proximal anchor to expand,

wherein locking the proximal anchor comprises locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration in which the proximal anchor extends, relative to a connector extending between the distal and proximal anchors, further radially outward than the distal anchor when the distal anchor is in the locked configuration.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration comprises moving a first lock element relative to a second lock element until the first lock element is in a locked position relative to the second lock element.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein moving a first lock element comprises moving a first lock element distally relative to the second lock element.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein applying a proximal cinching force does not cause a change in length of a connector extending between the distal anchor and the proximal anchor.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein allowing the distal anchor to expand comprises allowing a distal region of the distal anchor to expand radially outward and allowing a proximal region of the distal anchor to expand radially outward.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein allowing the proximal anchor to expand comprises allowing a distal region of the proximal end to expand radially outward and allowing a proximal region of the proximal anchor to expand radially outward.

7. A method of modifying the geometry of a mitral valve, comprising:

delivering a tissue shaping device to a coronary sinus;

deploying a distal anchor from a delivery device and into the coronary sinus to allow the expandable distal anchor to expand;

locking the distal anchor in a locked configuration;

applying a proximal cinching force to the distal anchor to reshape tissue; and

while maintaining the proximal cinching force, deploying the proximal anchor from the delivery device to allow the proximal anchor to expand,

wherein locking the distal anchor in a locked configuration comprises moving a first lock element relative to a second lock element until the first lock element is in a locked position relative to the second lock element.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein moving a first lock element comprises moving a first lock element distally relative to the second lock element.

9. The method of claim 7 , further comprising locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration, wherein locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration comprises moving a proximal first lock element relative to a proximal second lock element until the proximal first lock element is in a locked position relative to the proximal second lock element.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein moving a proximal first lock element comprises moving a proximal first lock element distally relative to the proximal second lock element.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein applying a proximal cinching force does not cause a change in length of a connector extending between the distal anchor and the proximal anchor.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein allowing the distal anchor to expand comprises allowing a distal region of the distal anchor to expand radially outward and allowing a proximal region of the distal anchor to expand radially outward.

13. The method of claim 7 , wherein allowing the proximal anchor to expand comprises allowing a distal region of the proximal end to expand radially outward and allowing a proximal region of the proximal anchor to expand radially outward.

14. The method of claim 7 , further comprising locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration, wherein locking the proximal anchor comprises locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration in which the proximal anchor extends, relative to a connector extending between the distal and proximal anchors, further radially outward than the distal anchor when the distal anchor is in the locked configuration.

15. A method of modifying the geometry of a mitral valve, comprising:

delivering a tissue shaping device to a coronary sinus;

deploying a distal anchor from a delivery device and into the coronary sinus to allow the expandable distal anchor to expand;

locking the distal anchor in a locked configuration;

applying a proximal cinching force to the distal anchor to reshape tissue; and

while maintaining the proximal cinching force, deploying the proximal anchor from the delivery device to allow the proximal anchor to expand,

wherein deploying the proximal anchor from the delivery device to allow the proximal anchor to expand causes the proximal anchor to be rotationally offset from the distal anchor, relative to a connector extending between the distal and proximal anchors.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration, wherein locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration comprises moving a proximal first lock element relative to a proximal second lock element until the proximal first lock element is in a locked position relative to the proximal second lock element.

17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration, wherein locking the proximal anchor comprises locking the proximal anchor in a locked configuration in which the proximal anchor extends, relative to a connector extending between the distal and proximal anchors, further radially outward than the distal anchor when the distal anchor is in the locked configuration.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein applying a proximal cinching force does not cause a change in length of a connector extending between the distal anchor and the proximal anchor.
