Abstract

The use and screening of modulators of apoptosis is disclosed. The modulators may be, for example, modulator of NF-κB activity. The modulators may be used, for example, in the treatment of NF-κB-mediated diseases, conditions, and injuries.

Claims (8)

1. A method of protecting a mammal from stress-mediated damage to normal tissue, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of composition comprising flagellin, wherein the stress is attributable to whole body radiation.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered in combination with a radioprotectant.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the radioprotectant is an antioxidant.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the antioxidant is selected from the group consisting of amifostine and vitamin E.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the radioprotectant is a cytokine.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the cytokine is stem cell factor.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the flagellin is capable of inducing NF-κB activity.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the induction of NF-κB is TLR-mediated.
