SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INCREASING DATA REDUCTION WITH BACKGROUND RECOMPRESSION
A method, computer program product, and computer system for identifying whether one of a first phase associated with a data operation is occurring with a file and a second phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file. Resources available for data reduction operations may be increased when the first phase is occurring with the file. The resources available for data reduction operations may be decreased when the second phase is occurring with the file.
1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
identifying whether one of a first phase associated with a data operation is occurring with a file and a second phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file;
increasing resources available for data reduction operations when the first phase is occurring with the file; and
decreasing the resources available for data reduction operations when the second phase is occurring with the file.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the first phase is an inline phase.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the second phase is a deep compression phase.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein identifying whether one of the first phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file and the second phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file includes providing metadata tags based upon, at least in part, one of attributes of the file and extended attributes of the file.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 4 wherein the file metadata of the file is stored as part of the file metadata of the file as the extended attributes sent to a block array to a NAS file system.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein the extended attributes are sent to the block array to the NAS file system using an Application Programming Interface (API) call.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 further comprising sending an instruction to schedule a post-fact data reduction on the file.
8 . A computer program product residing on a computer readable storage medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon which, when executed across one or more processors, causes at least a portion of the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
identifying whether one of a first phase associated with a data operation is occurring with a file and a second phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file;
increasing resources available for data reduction operations when the first phase is occurring with the file; and
decreasing the resources available for data reduction operations when the second phase is occurring with the file.
9 . The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the first phase is an inline phase.
10 . The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the second phase is a deep compression phase.
11 . The computer program product of claim 8 wherein identifying whether one of the first phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file and the second phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file includes providing metadata tags based upon, at least in part, one of attributes of the file and extended attributes of the file.
12 . The computer program product of claim 11 wherein the file metadata of the file is stored as part of the file metadata of the file as the extended attributes sent to a block array to a NAS file system.
13 . The computer program product of claim 12 wherein the extended attributes are sent to the block array to the NAS file system using an Application Programming Interface (API) call.
14 . The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the operations further comprise sending an instruction to schedule a post-fact data reduction on the file.
15 . A computing system including one or more processors and one or more memories configured to perform operations comprising:
identifying whether one of a first phase associated with a data operation is occurring with a file and a second phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file;
increasing resources available for data reduction operations when the first phase is occurring with the file; and
decreasing the resources available for data reduction operations when the second phase is occurring with the file.
16 . The computing system of claim 15 wherein the first phase is an inline phase.
17 . The computing system of claim 15 wherein the second phase is a deep compression phase.
18 . The computing system of claim 15 wherein identifying whether one of the first phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file and the second phase associated with the data operation is occurring with the file includes providing metadata tags based upon, at least in part, one of attributes of the file and extended attributes of the file.
19 . The computing system of claim 18 wherein the file metadata of the file is stored as part of the file metadata of the file as the extended attributes sent to a block array to a NAS file system using an Application Programming Interface (API) call.
20 . The computing system of claim 15 wherein the operations further comprise sending an instruction to schedule a post-fact data reduction on the file.
