Abstract

The present disclosure relates to methods for treating intestinal diseases presenting at least one inflammatory component such as inflammatory bowel disease or diverticular disease and/or maintaining remission of intestinal diseases presenting at least one inflammatory component such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or diverticular disease using budesonide MMX compositions.

Claims (17)

1 . A method of treating ulcerative colitis in a patient in need of such treatment, wherein said patient exhibits a UCDAI score of greater than or equal to 4 while being administered a first composition comprising 5-aminosalicylic acid, said method consisting of administering to said patient a second composition in the form of a single tablet, said single tablet comprising about 9 mg of budesonide, wherein said second composition is administered to said patient once daily for up to 8 weeks or a portion thereof, wherein said ulcerative colitis in said patient is in remission after said treatment.

2 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said second composition is administered to said patient for 8 weeks.

3 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein after said treatment, said UCDAI score for said patient is less than or equal to 1.

4 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said patient is experiencing an ulcerative colitis flare prior to said second composition being administered to said patient.

A method of treating ulcerative colitis in a patient in need of such treatment, wherein said patient exhibits a UCDAI score of greater than or equal to 4 while being administered a first composition comprising 5-aminosalicylic acid, said method consisting of administering to said patient said first composition and a second composition wherein said second composition is in the form of a single tablet, said single tablet comprising about 9 mg of budesonide, wherein said second composition is administered to said patient once daily for up to 8 weeks or a portion thereof, wherein said ulcerative colitis in said patient is in remission after said treatment.

6 . A method according to claim 5 , wherein said second composition is administered to said patient for 8 weeks.

7 . A method according to claim 5 , wherein after said treatment, said UCDAI score for said patient is less than or equal to 1.

8 . A method according to claim 5 , wherein said patient is experiencing an ulcerative colitis flare prior to said second composition being administered to said patient.

9 . A method according to claim 5 , wherein said first composition and said second composition are administered to said patient simultaneously.

10 . A method of treating ulcerative colitis in a patient in need of such treatment, wherein said patient exhibits a UCDAI score of greater than or equal to 4 while being administered a first composition comprising 5-aminosalicylic acid, said method consisting of administering to said patient the first composition and a second composition, said second composition is in the form of a single tablet, said single tablet comprising about 9 mg of budesonide, wherein said second composition is administered to said patient once daily for up to 8 weeks or a portion thereof, wherein said ulcerative colitis in said patient is in remission after said treatment.

11 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein second composition is administered to said patient for 8 weeks.

12 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein after said treatment, said UCDAI score for said patient is less than or equal to 1.

13 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein said patient is experiencing an ulcerative colitis flare prior to said second composition being administered to said patient.

14 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein said first composition and said second composition are administered to said patient simultaneously.

15 . A method of maintaining remission of ulcerative colitis in a patient in need of such maintenance, said method comprising administering to said patient a composition in the form of a single tablet, said single tablet comprising about 6 mg of budesonide, whereby said remission of ulcerative colitis in said patient is maintained.

16 . A method according to claim 15 , wherein said single tablet comprising about 6 mg of budesonide is administered to said patient once daily for up to 12 months.

17 . A method according to claim 16 , wherein said single tablet comprising about 6 mg of budesonide is administered to said patient once daily for up to 6 months.
