Abstract

A medical diagnostic device includes a wirelessly transmitted time data receiver and processor. Associated devices, methods and functionality are also described.

Claims (30)

1. A method of operating a blood glucose meter comprising:

generating a plurality of glucose concentration measurement values from a plurality of tests performed with the blood glucose meter;

correlating, using the blood glucose meter, the plurality of glucose concentration measurement values with the particular points in time during the day when the glucose concentration measurement values were taken to establish a set of time-correlated glucose measurement values;

deriving a trend based on the set of time-correlated glucose concentration measurement values; and

suggesting a potential treatment based at least in part on the trend.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising alerting a user to perform another test with the blood glucose meter within a set period of time to verify the trend.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the suggested potential treatment is carbohydrate intake.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the derived trend is a falling glucose concentration level.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising downloading the glucose concentration measurement values and associated time data from the blood glucose meter.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the blood glucose meter automatically sets and maintains an internal clock.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving time data wirelessly to set an internal clock of the blood glucose meter.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of time-correlated glucose concentration measurement values includes first and second consecutively taken glucose concentration measurement values.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising suggesting a user contact a care provider based at least in part on the trend.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the blood glucose meter comprises a memory comprising stored time data and the method further comprises receiving, with the blood glucose meter, time data wirelessly and comparing, with the blood glucose meter, the received time data with the stored time data.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising overwriting the stored time data with the received time data upon detection of a discrepancy therebetween.

12. A blood glucose meter comprising:

a housing;

a display;

a memory comprising instructions to:

generate a plurality of glucose concentration measurement values from a plurality of tests performed with the blood glucose meter;

correlate the plurality of glucose concentration measurement values with the particular points in time during the day when the glucose concentration measurement values were taken to establish a set of time-correlated glucose measurement values;

derive a trend based on the set of time-correlated glucose concentration measurement values; and

suggest a potential treatment based at least in part on the trend; and

a processor configured to execute the instructions on the memory.

13. The blood glucose meter of claim 12 , wherein the memory further comprises instructions to alert a user to perform another test with the blood glucose meter within a set period of time to verify the trend.

14. The blood glucose meter of claim 12 , wherein the suggested potential treatment is carbohydrate intake.

15. The blood glucose meter of claim 12 , wherein the derived trend is a falling glucose concentration level.

16. The blood glucose meter of claim 12 further comprising a removable cartridge configured for performing a plurality of tests with the blood glucose meter.

17. The blood glucose meter of claim 16 , wherein the memory further comprises instructions to provide a signal to a user indicating a number of tests performed with the removable cartridge or a number of tests remaining for the removable cartridge.

18. The blood glucose meter of claim 17 , wherein the signal is one or more of an audible signal and a visual signal.
