Abstract

A golf club head includes a club body including a heel portion, a sole portion, a toe portion, a top-line portion, and a face portion. In some embodiments, the face portion has an ideal striking location and at least one channel defined in the face. In some embodiments, the golf club head has a striking face and at least one channel defined in the striking face. In some embodiments, the golf club head has an ideal striking location and at least one non-ideal striking location.

Claims (10)

1 . A golf club head comprising:

a club body including a heel portion, a sole portion, a toe portion, a top-line portion, and a face portion and having an ideal strike location and at least one non-ideal strike location, wherein the ideal strike location being a point on the face portion that coincides with a location of a center of gravity of the golf club head along an x-axis, each non-ideal strike location being about 10 mm from the ideal strike location on the x-axis, the x-axis defined tangential to the face portion and parallel to a ground plane when the club body is in a normal address position and passing through the ideal strike location, wherein a positive x-axis extends toward the heel portion from the ideal strike location;

wherein the golf club head includes at least one flexible boundary structure defined in the face portion, the at least one flexible boundary structure comprising at least one channel defined through an entire thickness of the face portion; and

wherein a coefficient of restitution at the ideal strike location is not more than 0.035 greater than a coefficient of restitution at the at least one non-ideal strike location.

2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the coefficient of restitution at the ideal strike location is not more than 0.010 greater than the coefficient of restitution at the at least one non-ideal strike location.

3 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the coefficient of restitution at the ideal strike location is at least 0.810.

The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the at least one non-ideal strike location comprises a non-deal strike location that is 15 mm from the ideal strike location proximate the toe portion along the x-axis, wherein the coefficient of restitution at the ideal strike location is not more than 0.080 greater than a coefficient of restitution at the non-ideal strike location 15 mm from the ideal strike location.

5 . The golf club head of claim 4 , wherein the coefficient of restitution at the ideal strike location is not more than 0.060 greater than the coefficient of restitution at the non-ideal strike location 15 mm from the ideal strike location.

6 . The golf club head of claim 1 , further comprising at least one sole-located flexible boundary structure defined as a feature of the sole portion.

7 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the golf club head includes a primary mode that is within 20 mm of the ideal strike location.
