Abstract

A system and method for dynamically selecting products for presentation to consumers in a hands-on environment of a merchant, based upon social signals acquired from consumers in an online environment.

Claims (50)

2 . A system comprising:

a plurality of in-store displays, each store being in a different one of a plurality of geographic locations; and

a computer system operable to:

receive indications of user sentiment towards products resulting from a plurality of user interactions with graphical user interface elements associated with the products on a website, wherein the indications of user sentiment include geographic locations of the users;

determine, based on the indications of user sentiment and the geographic locations of the users, which product or products to present on each of the in-store displays; and

communicate with each in-store display of the plurality of in-store displays to configure the in-store display for presentation of the product or products determined for that in-store display.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer system comprises a sentiment database operable to store information about the indications of user sentiment.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the information stored in the sentiment database comprises, for each of a plurality of products, a numeric sentiment value calculated based on the indications of user sentiment.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the numeric sentiment value is calculated based on a quantity of “like,” “want,” and/or “have” sentiment indications received for each of the plurality of products and the plurality of geographic locations.

6 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the information stored in the sentiment database comprises, for each of a plurality of products and a plurality of geographic locations, a numeric sentiment value calculated based on the indications of user sentiment.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the numeric sentiment value is calculated based on a quantity of “like,” “want,” and/or “have” sentiment indications received for each of the plurality of products.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interactions are via one or more of the following:

an interface element for user expression of liking the associated product;

an interface element for user expression of wanting the associated product;

an interface element for user expression of owning the associated product; and

an interface element for user purchase of the associated product.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

each of the in-store displays is part of a self-service terminal; and

the communication with the in-store display enables configuration of the in-store display to enable purchase of the presented product or products via the self-service terminal.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interactions are via one or more of the following:

an interface element for submitting a product review;

an interface element for a product related message communicated from one consumer to another consumer; and

an interface element that is an icon associated with a product.

11 . A method comprising:

in a network comprising a computer system and a plurality of in-store displays, each store being in a different one of a plurality of geographic locations:

receiving, by the computer system, indications of user sentiment towards products resulting from a plurality of user interactions with graphical user interface elements associated with the products on a website, wherein the indications of user sentiment include geographic locations of the users;

determining, by the computer system based on the indications of user sentiment and the geographic locations of the users, which product or products to present on each of the in-store displays; and

communicating, by the computer system, with each in-store display of the plurality of in-store displays to configure the in-store display for presentation of the product or products determined for that in-store display.

12 . The method of claim 11 , comprising storing, by the computer system, in a sentiment database, information about the indications of user sentiment.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein:

the information stored in the sentiment database comprises, for each of a plurality of products, a numeric sentiment value; and

the method comprises calculating, by the computer system, the numeric sentiment value based on the indications of user sentiment.

14 . The method of claim 13 , comprising calculating, by the computer system, the numeric sentiment value based on a quantity of “like,” “want,” and/or “have” sentiment indications received for each of the plurality of products.

15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein:

the information stored in the sentiment database comprises, for each of a plurality of products and a plurality of geographic locations, a numeric sentiment value; and

the method comprises calculating, by the computer system, the numeric sentiment value based on the indications of user sentiment.

16 . The method of claim 15 , comprising calculating, by the computer system, the numeric sentiment value based on a quantity of “like,” “want,” and/or “have” sentiment indications received for each of the plurality of products and the plurality of geographic locations.

17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the user interactions are via one or more of the following:

an interface element for user expression of liking the associated product;

an interface element for user expression of wanting the associated product;

an interface element for user expression of owning the associated product; and

an interface element for user purchase of the associated product.

18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein:

each of the in-store displays is part of a self-service terminal; and

the communicating with the in-store display configures the in-store display to enable purchase of the presented product or products via the self-service terminal.

19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the user interactions are via one or more of the following:

an interface element for submitting a product review;

an interface element for a product related message communicated from one consumer to another consumer; and

an interface element that is an icon associated with a product.
