Abstract

Disclosed are an apparatus and method of performing a data file migration to a cloud source. One example method of operation may include establishing via a transmitter an application programming interface (API) connection to an enterprise network, identifying via a processor one or more present allocation parameters being utilized by one or more virtual machines operating on the enterprise network. The method may also provide requesting via the transmitter a directory file structure and identifying via the processor at least one data file for data migration to a remote cloud storage server based on predetermined criteria.

1. A method, comprising:

identifying, by an enterprise application, a data file physically stored in a directory file structure and included within a predefined virtual storage volume for data migration to a cloud storage server based on a present status of the predefined virtual storage volume;

implementing, by the enterprise application, a classpath modifier component to configure a classpath broker to add a new path to a classpath environmental variable identifying a location in the cloud storage of the data file after migration so that the new classpath created by the classpath modifier component is stored in a common class file access directory and used to identify, retrieve and access the at least one data file;

receiving, by the enterprise application, a request for the data file from a requestor, the request comprising a data file location path, last known to the requestor, of the data-migrated file,

retrieving, by the enterprise application, the data from the location of the data file after migration to the cloud storage;

creating, by the enterprise application, a temporary path in the virtual storage volume; and

inserting, by the enterprise application, the data file into the temporary path in the virtual storage volume for retrieval by the requestor.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a present allocation parameter utilized by a virtual machine; and

discerning activity levels, via a content engine, of the at least one virtual machine.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the present allocation parameter comprises at least one of:

a memory usage, a storage usage, a network device usage, and a central processing unit (CPU) usage.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising,

identifying, by a content parser of the enterprise application, volumes with directory attributes; and

parsing, by a content parser, the identified volumes for a last modified field to select candidate data files for migration.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying another data file physically stored in a directory file structure and included within a different predefined virtual storage volume for data migration to a cloud storage server;

determining that the different predefined virtual storage volume cannot be analyzed based on a restriction; and

identifying that the different restricted storage volume and corresponding path is not being eligible for migration based on the restriction.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying the data file for data migration to a cloud storage server further comprises:

identifying that the predefined virtual storage volume is not restricted from being analyzed.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a change in a data file inventory.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

at least one processor configured to:

identify at least one data file physically stored in a directory file structure and included within at least one predefined virtual storage volume for data migration to a cloud storage server based on a present status of the predefined virtual storage volume;

implement a classpath modifier component to configure a classpath broker to add a new path to a classpath environmental variable that identifies a location in the cloud storage of the at least one data file after migration, and wherein when retrieval of the at least one migrated data file is requested;

receive, from a requestor, a request for the at least one migrated data file, the request comprising a data file location path, last known to the requestor, of the at least one migrated data file;

retrieve the at least one data file from the location; and

create a temporary path in the at least one the virtual storage volume; and

insert the at least one data file into temporary path for retrieval by the requestor.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

identify a present allocation parameter being utilized by the at least one virtual machine; and

discerning, by a content engine, an activity level of the at least one virtual machine.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the present allocation parameter comprises at least one of:

a memory usage, a storage usage, a network device usage, and a central processing unit (CPU) usage.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

identify volumes with directory attributes; and

parse the identified volumes for a last modified field to select candidate data files for migration.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

identify another data file physically stored in a directory file structure and included within a different predefined virtual storage volume for data migration to a cloud storage server;

determine that the different predefined virtual storage volume cannot be analyzed based on a restriction; and

identify that the different restricted storage volume and corresponding path is not being eligible for migration based on the restriction.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein, when the at least one processor is configured to the identify at least one data file for data migration to the cloud storage server, the at least one processor further is configured to:

identify that the at least one predefined virtual storage volume is not restricted from being analyzed.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

identify a change in a data file inventory.

15. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium configured to store instructions that when executed by at least one the at least one processor to perform:

identifying, a data file physically stored in a directory file structure and included within a predefined virtual storage volume for data migration to a cloud storage server based on a present status of the predefined virtual storage volume;

implementing a classpath modifier component to configure a classpath broker to add a new path to a classpath environmental variable identifying a location in the cloud storage of the data file after migration;

generating a file list of potential candidate files for the data migration to the cloud storage server;

receiving a request for the data file from a requestor, the request comprising a data file location path, last known to the requestor, of the migrated data file,

retrieving the data from the location of the data file after migration to the cloud storage;

creating a temporary path in the virtual storage volume; and

inserting the data file into the temporary path in the virtual storage volume for retrieval by the requestor.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to perform:

identifying a present allocation parameter utilized by a virtual machine; and
