Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a medical product with a biodegradable portion. The biodegradable portion is made of a biodegradable material and the biodegradable portion degrades faster than the remaining portion of the medical product.

Claims (31)

1 - 53 . (canceled)

54 . A polymer system comprising:

a polymeric material; and

a degradation agent incorporated into the polymeric material and configured to enhance the degradation of the polymeric material.

55 . The system of claim 54 , wherein the degradation agent is an active agent configured to activate when exposed to at least one stimulus.

56 . The system of claim 55 , wherein the at least one stimulus is at least one of time, air, moisture, temperature, light, ultraviolet light, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, enzyme, and chemical.

57 . The system of claim 54 , wherein the degradation agent is an organic material.

58 . The system of claim 54 , wherein the degradation agent is at least one of an enzyme, a fungus, and a bacterium.

59 . The system of claim 54 , wherein the degradation agent is a reactive chemical.

60 . The system of claim 54 , wherein the degradation agent is configured to at least one of increase and control the degradation rate of the polymeric material.

61 . The system of claim 54 , wherein the system comprises a multilayered film.

62 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the multilayered film is at least part of packaging material.

63 . A polymer system comprised of:

a polymeric material; and

a degradation agent incorporated into the polymeric material and configured to enhance the degradation of the polymeric material, wherein the degradation agent is an active agent configured to activate when exposed to at least one stimulus, and

wherein the polymeric material and degradation agent form a multilayered film.

64 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the at least one stimulus is at least one of time, air, moisture, temperature, light, ultraviolet light, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, enzyme, and chemical.

65 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the degradation agent is an organic material.

66 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the degradation agent is at least one of an enzyme, a fungus, and a bacterium.

67 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the degradation agent is a reactive chemical.

68 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the degradation agent is configured to at least one of increase and control the degradation rate of the polymeric material.

69 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the multilayered film is at least part of packaging material.

70 . A polymer system comprised of:

a polymeric material; and

a degradation agent incorporated into the polymeric material and configured to enhance the degradation of the polymeric material, wherein the degradation agent is an active agent configured to activate when exposed to at least one stimulus, and

wherein the polymeric material and degradation agent form a multilayered packaging material.

71 . The system of claim 70 , wherein the at least one stimulus is at least one of time, air, moisture, temperature, light, ultraviolet light, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, enzyme, and chemical.

72 . The system of claim 70 , wherein the degradation agent is an organic material.

73 . The system of claim 70 , wherein the degradation agent is at least one of an enzyme, a fungus, and bacterium.

74 . The system of claim 70 , wherein the degradation agent is a reactive chemical.

75 . The system of claim 70 , wherein the degradation agent is configured to at least one of increase and control the degradation rate of the polymeric material.
