Abstract

Disclosed herein are several embodiments of a negative pressure appliance and methods of using the same in the treatment of wounds. Some embodiments are directed to improved fluidic connectors or suction adapters for connecting to a wound site, for example using softer, kink-free conformable suction adapters.

Claims (18)

1. A negative pressure wound therapy dressing comprising a drainage tube,

wherein the drainage tube comprises a channel knitted from a monofilament yarn, wherein an impermeable sheath surrounds the knitted channel,

wherein the impermeable sheath comprises a distal end configured to be attached to a cover layer of the negative pressure wound therapy dressing, and

wherein the knitted channel is in fluid communication with a connector comprising a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the distal end of the connector extends into a proximal end of the knitted channel.

2. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 1 , wherein the monofilament yarn is a polyester or polyamide monofilament yarn.

3. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 1 , wherein the impermeable sheath comprises one or more sheets of an impermeable material.

4. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 3 , wherein the knitted channel is sandwiched between two sheets of an impermeable material.

5. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 4 , wherein a length of the connector rests between the two sheets forming a fluid-tight seal with both of the two layers.

6. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 1 , wherein the impermeable sheath is adhered to the knitted channel.

7. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 1 , wherein the impermeable sheath is a polyurethane sheath.

8. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 1 , wherein one end of the drainage tube forms an integral tab by which the drainage tube can be attached to the cover layer.

9. The negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 1 , wherein one end of the drainage tube is adapted for connection to a source of negative pressure.

10. A method of treating a wound comprising the steps of (a) applying the negative pressure wound therapy dressing according to claim 1 to a wound and (b) applying a negative pressure to the dressing via the drainage tube.

A knitted channel for use in medical applications wherein the channel is knitted from monofilament yarn, wherein an impermeable sheath surrounds the knitted channel, wherein the impermeable sheath comprises two sheets of an impermeable material and the knitted channel is sandwiched between the two sheets of the impermeable material, wherein the impermeable sheath comprises a distal end configured to be attached to a negative pressure wound therapy dressing, wherein the distal end of a lower of the two sheets comprises at least one aperture configured to align with at least one aperture of the negative pressure wound therapy dressing, and wherein the at least one aperture of the distal end of the lower of the two sheets and the at least aperture of the negative pressure wound therapy dressing are configured to be positioned over a wound.

12. The channel according to claim 11 , wherein the monofilament yarn is a polyester or polyamide monofilament yarn.

13. The channel according to claim 11 , wherein the impermeable sheath is adhered to the knitted channel.

14. The channel according to claim 11 , wherein the impermeable sheath is a polyurethane sheath.

15. The channel according to claim 11 , wherein the two sheets of the impermeable material at the distal end of the impermeable sheath each has an enlarged distal end.
