Abstract

Drop cable assemblies that can be routed from an outdoor terminal directly to an indoor wall outlet without disruption, and adhered to the interior of a dwelling after removal of the drop cable jacket and utilization of a pre-applied adhesive layer are described. Additionally, telecommunications systems utilizing such assemblies, methods of routing such assemblies and methods of making such assemblies are described.

Claims (20)

1. A telecommunications system, comprising:

a track configured to adhere to a mounting surface of a dwelling, wherein the track comprises post features that are intermittently spaced and positioned along a length of the track to define a channel for securing and protecting a fiber drop cable, where each of the post features comprises a base end and a top end, the base end being in contact with the track and the top end extending outward away from the track, such that a longitudinal axis of each of the post features is normal to the track,

wherein the post features comprise a widened cap disposed at the top end of each one of the post features, the cap having a larger cross-sectional area than the post features.

2. The telecommunications system of claim 1 , wherein the track and the post features comprise a flexible clear or translucent material.

3. The telecommunications system of claim 1 , further comprising a portion of the fiber drop cable, wherein the portion of the fiber drop cable is secured in the channel by the post features.

4. The telecommunications system of claim 3 , wherein the portion of the fiber drop cable is unjacketed and comprises a clear or translucent buffered fiber.

5. The telecommunications system of claim 1 , wherein the track and the post features comprise a flexible material that is color-matched to the mounting surface of the dwelling.

6. The telecommunications system of claim 4 , further comprising a cover portion positioned over the channel that provides additional protection to the unjacketed portion of the fiber drop cable.

7. The telecommunications system of claim 4 , wherein the unjacketed portion of the fiber drop cable includes an adhesive layer.

8. A method of installing a telecommunications system, the method comprising:

adhering a track to a mounting surface of a dwelling, wherein the track comprises post features that are intermittently spaced and positioned along a length of the track to define a channel for securing and protecting a fiber drop cable, where each of the post features comprises a base end and a top end, the base end being in contact with the track and the top end extending outward away from the track, such that a longitudinal axis of each of the post features is normal to the track,

wherein the post features comprise a widened cap disposed at the top end of each one of the post features, the cap having a larger cross-sectional area than the post features.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the track and the post features comprise a flexible clear or translucent material.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

inserting a portion of the fiber drop cable in the channel such that the portion of the fiber drop cable is secured by the post features.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the portion of the fiber drop cable inserted into the channel is unjacketed and comprises a clear or translucent buffered fiber.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

positioning a cover portion over the channel to provide additional protection to the unjacketed portion of the fiber drop cable.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the unjacketed portion of the fiber drop cable includes an adhesive layer.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the track and the post features comprise a flexible material that is color-matched to the mounting surface.
