Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are provided herein for securing merchandise. In one embodiment an apparatus for securing merchandise comprises a locking mechanism limiting access to one or more items, one or more optical sensors configured to detect a plurality of wavelengths and an intensity associated with each wavelength from at least one light beam emitted by an optical key, and a control device comprising a control circuit and a memory device. The control device being configured to store a lock code comprising a plurality of wavelength values and a plurality of intensity values each associated with a wavelength value on the memory device and determine whether to release the locking mechanism based on whether intensities of each of the plurality of wavelengths detected by the one or more optical sensors match the lock code.

Claims (41)

1. A system for securing items comprising:

a communication device configured to communicate with:

a plurality of optical locks, each optical lock comprising one or more optical sensors configured to detect a plurality of wavelengths and an intensity associated with each wavelength; and

a control circuit coupled to the communication device and configured to:

receive an unlock request associated with an optical key;

determine a lock code for optical lock, wherein the lock code comprises a plurality of wavelength values and a plurality of intensity values each associated with a wavelength value; and

send the lock code to the optical lock to allow the optical key to access items secured by the optical lock.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the lock code comprises a one-time use lock code that is removed from the optical lock after one use.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the unlock request is received from the optical lock in response to detecting a light from an optical key.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the unlock request is received from the optical key and comprises a user credential associated with the optical key.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to determine whether the optical key is authorized to access the optical lock prior to sending the lock code to the optical lock.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the items removed or added are entered via a user interface of the optical key.

7. The system of claim 5 , wherein the items removed or added are scanned by one or more light sources of the optical key.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to:

log each unlock request received via the communication device.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to: log each attempt to unlock the optical lock with an optical key and the lock code associated with each attempt.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to track items removed from or added to a spaced secured by the optical lock.

11. A method for securing items comprising:

establishing communication, via a communication device, with a plurality of optical locks, each optical lock comprising one or more optical sensors configured to detect a plurality of wavelengths and an intensity associated with each wavelength;

receiving an unlock request associated with an optical key;

determining a lock code for optical lock, wherein the lock code comprises a plurality of wavelength values and a plurality of intensity values each associated with a wavelength value; and

sending the lock code to the optical lock to allow the optical key to access items secured by the optical lock.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the lock code comprises a one-time use lock code that is removed from the optical lock after one use.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the unlock request is received from the optical lock in response to detecting a light from an optical key.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the unlock request is received from the optical key and comprises a user credential associated with the optical key.

15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

determining whether the optical key is authorized to access the optical lock prior to sending the lock code to the optical lock.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the items removed or added are entered via a user interface of the optical key.

17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

logging each unlock request received via the communication device.

18. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

logging each attempt to unlock the optical lock with an optical key and the lock code associated with each attempt.

19. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

tracking items removed from or added to a spaced secured by the optical lock.

20. An apparatus for management of optical locks comprising:

a non-transitory storage medium storing a set of computer readable instructions; and

a control circuit configured to execute the set of computer readable instructions which causes the control circuit to:

establish communication, via a communication device, with a plurality of optical locks, each optical lock comprising one or more optical sensors configured to detect a plurality of wavelengths and an intensity associated with each wavelength;

receive an unlock request associated with an optical key;

determine a lock code for optical lock, wherein the lock code comprises a plurality of wavelength values and a plurality of intensity values each associated with a wavelength value; and

send the lock code to the optical lock to allow the optical key to access items secured by the optical lock.
