Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for providing a cardiovascular score for a patient. A method includes receiving, using at least one computer system, patient-specific data regarding a geometry of multiple coronary arteries of the patient; and creating, using at least one computer system, a three-dimensional model representing at least portions of the multiple coronary arteries based on the patient-specific data. The method also includes evaluating, using at least one computer system, multiple characteristics of at least some of the coronary arteries represented by the model; and generating, using at least one computer system, the cardiovascular score based on the evaluation of the multiple characteristics. Another method includes generating the cardiovascular score based on evaluated multiple characteristics for portions of the coronary arteries having fractional flow reserve values of at least a predetermined threshold value.

presence or absence of total occlusions,

presence or absence of bifurcation,

presence or absence of trifurcation,

presence or absence of ostial disease,

tortuosity,

length of stenosis,

dimensions of calcified plaque,

presence or absence of thrombus, and

presence or absence of diffuse disease; and

automatically generating, using the at least one computer system, the cardiovascular score based on the computer evaluation of the multiple characteristics.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein

the vasculature of the patient is a coronary vasculature of the patient, and

the multiple characteristics are characteristics of one or more diseased segments of the coronary vasculature.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

segmenting, using the at least one computer system, the anatomical model into a plurality of anatomical model segments respectively representing a plurality of segments of the coronary vasculature,

wherein the plurality of anatomical model segments includes one or more anatomical model segments respectively representing the one or more diseased segments.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the evaluating the multiple characteristics includes analyzing the one or more anatomical model segments to determine the computer evaluation of the multiple characteristics.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein

each of the one or more diseased segments of the coronary vasculature of the patient has a blood flow property, and

the cardiovascular score is a functional cardiovascular score.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

determining, using the at least one computer system, a respective fractional flow reserve (FFR) value for each of the one or more diseased segments,

wherein the blood flow property is a fractional flow reserve (FFR) value determined to be below a predetermined threshold value.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the multiple characteristics are evaluated based on analysis of one or more of: image contrast, image contours, image gradients, post-processed images, image intensities, shape, and volumetric mesh of the anatomical model.

8. A computer system comprising:

a memory storing instructions; and

one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to perform operations for providing a cardiovascular score for a patient, the operations comprising:

receiving patient-specific image data regarding a vascular geometry of a least a portion of a vasculature of the patient;

creating an anatomical model of the vascular geometry based on the patient-specific image data;

based on the anatomical model and/or patient-specific image data, evaluating multiple characteristics of the vascular geometry to obtain a computer evaluation of the multiple characteristics; and

automatically generating the cardiovascular score based on the computer evaluation of the multiple characteristics.

9. The computer system of claim 8 , wherein

the vasculature of the patient is a coronary vasculature of the patient, and

the multiple characteristics are characteristics of one or more diseased segments of the coronary vasculature.

10. The computer system of claim 9 , wherein the multiple characteristics include at least one selected from:

presence or absence of total occlusions,

presence or absence of bifurcation,

presence or absence of trifurcation,

presence or absence of ostial disease,

tortuosity,

length of stenosis,

dimensions of calcified plaque,

presence or absence of thrombus, and

presence or absence of diffuse disease.
