Abstract

A bed is provided having a base frame, a patient support assembly connected to the base frame, and a tilt frame connected between the base frame and the patient support assembly. The tilt frame is rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly, including the head section, seat section and foot section thereof, in a generally vertical position to allow a patient to exit the bed in a standing orientation. The bed also has a foot board assembly connected to the foot section, the foot board assembly having a foot board separately moveable about a longitudinal axis of the bed toward the head end and the foot end of the bed.

Claims (30)

1. A patient support tilt bed, comprising:

a base frame;

a patient support assembly connected to the base frame, the patient support assembly having a separate moveable head section, seat section, and foot section, wherein the head section is adjacent a head of the bed, the foot section is adjacent a foot end of the bed, and the seat section is located between the head section and foot section, the patient support assembly being rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly, including the head section, the seat section, and the foot section, in a tilted position with the entire patient support assembly generally in-line to allow a patient to be positioned in a substantially standing orientation greater than 30 degrees from a horizontal; and

a CPR release to automatically drop the patient support assembly when the CPR release is engaged, including the head section, the seat section, and the foot section, from the tilted position to a generally horizontal position.

2. The patient support tilt bed of claim 1 , wherein the CPR release disengages a first actuator for the head section and a second actuator for a tilt frame.

3. The patient support tilt bed of claim 1 , wherein the CPR release includes a CPR manifold for rapidly dumping air from a plurality of air bladders in a mattress of the bed.

4. The patient support tilt bed of claim 3 , wherein the CPR manifold has a plurality of exhaust breath ways to rapidly exhaust air out of any of the plurality of air bladders.

5. The patient support tilt bed of claim 1 , wherein the CPR release includes one or more CPR handles that when lifted, the bed will be immediately dropped from the tilted position to the generally horizontal position.

6. The patient support tilt bed of claim 5 , wherein lifting of the CPR handle is a momentary control, such that the CPR handle must be continued to be lifted until the patient support assembly is dropped to the generally horizontal position and releasing the CPR handle will stop movement of the patient support assembly.

7. The patient support tilt bed of claim 5 , wherein the CPR release is a 2-stage release, wherein a first stage release is defined by lifting the CPR handle a first amount that engage an electronic switch and a plurality of actuators will drop the patient support assembly to the generally horizontal position and a second stage release is defined by lifting the CPR handle an additional amount greater than the first amount disengages the plurality of actuators and the patient support assembly drops by gravity.

8. The patient support tilt bed of claim 1 , further including a tilt frame hingedly connected to the base frame and connected to and supporting the patient support assembly, the tilt frame being rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly in the tilted position.

9. The patient support tilt bed of claim 8 , wherein a tilt actuator connects the tilt frame to the base frame to raise the tilt frame and the patient support assembly that is supported on the tilt frame.

10. A patient support tilt bed, comprising:

a base frame;

a patient support assembly connected to the base frame, the patient support assembly having a separate moveable head section, seat section, and foot section, wherein the head section is adjacent a head of the bed, the foot section is adjacent a foot end of the bed, and the seat section is located between the head section and foot section, the patient support assembly being rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly, including the head section, the seat section, and the foot section, in a tilted position to allow a patient to be positioned in a substantially standing orientation greater than 30 degrees from a horizontal; and

a CPR release to automatically drop the patient support assembly when the CPR release is engaged, including the head section, the seat section, and the foot section, from the tilted position to a generally horizontal position, wherein the CPR release includes a CPR manifold for rapidly dumping air from a plurality of air bladders in a mattress of the bed, and further wherein the CPR release includes one or more CPR handles that when lifted, the bed will be immediately dropped from the tilted position to the generally horizontal position.

11. The patient support tilt bed of claim 10 , wherein the CPR release disengages a first actuator for the head section and a second actuator for a tilt frame.

12. The patient support tilt bed of claim 10 , wherein the CPR manifold has a plurality of exhaust breath ways to rapidly exhaust air out of any of the plurality of air bladders.

13. The patient support tilt bed of claim 10 , wherein the CPR release is a 2-stage release, wherein a first stage release is defined by lifting the CPR handle a first amount that engage an electronic switch and a plurality of actuators will drop the patient support assembly to the generally horizontal position and a second stage release is defined by lifting the CPR handle an additional amount greater than the first amount disengages the plurality of actuators and the patient support assembly drops by gravity.

14. The patient support tilt bed of claim 10 , further including a tilt frame hingedly connected to the base frame and connected to and supporting the patient support assembly, the tilt frame being rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly.

15. The patient support tilt bed of claim 14 , wherein a tilt actuator connects the tilt frame to the base frame to raise the tilt frame and the patient support assembly that is supported on the tilt frame.

16. A patient support tilt bed, comprising:

a base frame;

a patient support assembly connected to the base frame, the patient support assembly having a separate moveable head section, seat section, and foot section, wherein the head section is adjacent a head of the bed, the foot section is adjacent a foot end of the bed, and the seat section is located between the head section and foot section, the patient support assembly being rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly, including the head section, the seat section, and the foot section, in a tilted position to allow a patient to be positioned in a substantially standing orientation greater than 30 degrees from a horizontal;

a tilt frame hingedly connected to the base frame and connected to and supporting the patient support assembly, the tilt frame being rotatable adjacent the foot end of the bed to place the patient support assembly, wherein a tilt actuator connects the tilt frame to the base frame to raise the tilt frame and the patient support assembly that is supported on the tilt frame; and
