Abstract

A button deck assembly includes a button deck having at least one mechanical pushbutton, the pushbutton includes a lens cap, a liquid-crystal display (LCD) panel, and an optical block configured to transmit images from the LCD panel for display through the lens cap, a bottom surface of the optical block is positioned on the LCD panel, an air gap is defined between a top surface of the optical block and the lens cap. The assembly also includes a printed circuit board (PCB) assembly defining a PCB aperture, the PCB aperture is sized to receive the optical block, and an elastomeric membrane defining a membrane aperture sized to receive the optical block, the optical block extends from the LCD panel through the PCB and membrane apertures, the membrane channels fluid flow to outer edges of the membrane and around the PCB assembly and the LCD panel.

Claims (33)

1. An electronic gaming machine comprising:

a main display;

a credit input device configured to receive a credit wager;

a game controller configured to execute a wagering game; and

a button deck assembly configured to receive player input during play of the wagering game, the button deck assembly comprising:

a button deck having at least one mechanical pushbutton, the at least one mechanical pushbutton includes a lens cap;

a liquid-crystal display (LCD) panel;

an optical block configured to transmit images from the LCD panel for display through the lens cap, a bottom surface of the optical block is positioned on the LCD panel;

a printed circuit board (PCB) assembly defining a PCB aperture, the PCB aperture is sized to receive the optical block; and

an elastomeric membrane defining a membrane aperture sized to receive the optical block, the optical block extends from the LCD panel through the PCB aperture of the PCB assembly and the membrane aperture of the elastomeric membrane, the elastomeric membrane is configured to channel fluid flow to outer edges of the elastomeric membrane and around the PCB assembly and the LCD panel.

2. The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , further comprising a carrier tray configured to secure the optical block onto the LCD panel, wherein the carrier tray is positioned between the LCD panel and the PCB assembly, and wherein the carrier tray includes a tray aperture configured to receive the optical block.

3. The electronic gaming machine of claim 2 , wherein the optical block extends from the LCD panel through the tray aperture, the PCB aperture, and the membrane aperture, such that the optical block is positioned within the lens cap.

4. The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the PCB assembly includes at least one printed circuit traces (PCT) pad positioned around a periphery of the PCB aperture, and wherein the at least one PCT pad contacts an underside of the elastomeric membrane when the at least one mechanical pushbutton is actuated.

5. The electronic gaming machine of claim 4 , wherein the underside of the elastomeric membrane includes at least one carbon puck, and wherein the at least one carbon puck contacts the at least one PCT pad to facilitate switch closure when the at least one mechanical pushbutton is actuated.

6. The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the PCB aperture and the membrane aperture are sized in relation to the optical block, such that the optical block is tightly secured on the LCD panel.

7. The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the PCB aperture is defined by four corners, and wherein a printed circuit traces (PCT) pad is positioned at each of the four corners.

8. The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the elastomeric membrane is configured to contain the PCB assembly, the optical block, and the LCD panel.

9. The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , further comprising a drip tray configured to collect fluid, wherein the drip tray is positioned beneath the LCD panel.

10. The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the LCD panel includes a liquid-crystal display (LCD) device and wherein an air gap is defined between a top surface of the optical block and the lens cap.

11. A button deck assembly comprising:

a button deck having at least one mechanical pushbutton, the at least one mechanical pushbutton includes a lens cap;

a liquid-crystal display (LCD) panel;

an optical block configured to transmit images from the LCD panel for display through the lens cap, a bottom surface of the optical block is positioned on the LCD panel;

a printed circuit board (PCB) assembly defining a PCB aperture, the PCB aperture is sized to receive the optical block; and

an elastomeric membrane defining a membrane aperture sized to receive the optical block, the optical block extends from the LCD panel through the PCB aperture of the PCB assembly and the membrane aperture of the elastomeric membrane, the elastomeric membrane is configured to channel fluid flow to outer edges of the elastomeric membrane and around the PCB assembly and the LCD panel.

12. The button deck assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a carrier tray configured to secure the optical block onto the LCD panel, wherein the carrier tray is positioned between the LCD panel and the PCB assembly, and wherein the carrier tray includes a tray aperture configured to receive the optical block.

13. The button deck assembly of claim 12 , wherein the optical block extends from the LCD panel through the tray aperture, the PCB aperture, and the membrane aperture, such that the optical block is positioned within the lens cap.

14. The button deck assembly of claim 11 , wherein the PCB assembly includes at least one printed circuit traces (PCT) pad positioned around a periphery of the PCB aperture, and wherein the at least one PCT pad contacts an underside of the elastomeric membrane when the at least one mechanical pushbutton is actuated.

15. The button deck assembly of claim 14 , wherein the underside of the elastomeric membrane includes at least one carbon puck, and wherein the at least one carbon puck contacts the at least one PCT pad to facilitate switch closure when the at least one mechanical pushbutton is actuated.

16. The button deck assembly of claim 11 , wherein the PCB aperture and the membrane aperture are sized in relation to the optical block, such that the optical block is tightly secured on the LCD panel.
