Abstract

A system and method for performing vehicle safety processing within a vehicle includes determining whether a driver is present in a vehicle, receiving driver sensed data, processing the driver sensed data to recognize a safety issue. The method continues by determining if the driver sensed data also indicates an externally sensed safety issue. For the driver sensed data without the externally sensed safety issue, the method includes generating one or more control signals to activate a driver awareness measure. For the driver sensed data with an externally sensed safety issue, the method includes activating auto safety precaution measures, determining whether the auto safety measures were successful in avoiding an accident, and, if not, recording the driver sensed data in a one-time programmable (OTP) memory device.

Claims (51)

1. A vehicle safety system comprises:

a vehicle safety processor configured to:

determine whether occupants are present in a vehicle;

for a driver occupant, receive driver sensed data;

process the driver sensed data to recognize a safety issue;

determine if the driver sensed data also indicates an externally sensed safety issue;

for the driver sensed data without the externally sensed safety issue, generate one or more control signals to activate a driver awareness measure;

for the driver sensed data with an externally sensed safety issue, activate auto safety precaution measures;

determine whether the auto safety precaution measures were successful in avoiding an accident; and

if not, record the driver sensed data in a one-time programmable (OTP) memory device.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the driver sensed data without the externally sensed safety issue further includes an environmental adjustment for an ambient temperature above or below a desired setting.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the environmental adjustment for an ambient temperature above or below a desired setting includes an adjustment made to a temperature setting and/or to a fan rate.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the environmental adjustment includes a change in an occupant's seat position, generating corresponding commands.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the corresponding commands are provided, via a network fabric, to appropriate seat actuators.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the externally sensed safety issue includes any of: a potential collision detection, icy road conditions detection, or tire blowout detection.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the driver awareness measure includes any of:

an audible alarm, a visual alarm, or move a seat.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the auto safety precaution measures include any of: auto braking, auto steering, or auto transmission adjustment.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the driver awareness measure includes a response to a driver's potentially inattentiveness to driving.

10. A vehicle safety method comprises:

determining whether a driver is present in a vehicle;

receiving driver sensed data;

processing the driver sensed data to recognize a safety issue;

determining if the driver sensed data also indicates an externally sensed safety issue;

for the driver sensed data without the externally sensed safety issue, generating one or more control signals to activate a driver awareness measure;

for the driver sensed data with an externally sensed safety issue, activating auto safety precaution measures;

determining whether the auto safe precaution measures were successful in avoiding an accident; and

if not, recording the driver sensed data in a one-time programmable (OTP) memory device.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the driver sensed data without the externally sensed safety issue further includes an environmental adjustment for an ambient temperature above or below a desired setting.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the environmental adjustment includes a change in an occupant's seat position, generating corresponding commands.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the corresponding commands are provided, via a network fabric, to appropriate seat actuators.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the externally sensed safety issue includes any of: a potential collision detection, icy road conditions detection, or tire blowout detection.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the driver awareness measure includes any of:

an audible alarm, a visual alarm, or move a seat.

16. The method of claim 10 , wherein the auto safety precaution measures include any of: auto braking, auto steering, or auto transmission adjustment.

17. The method of claim 10 , wherein the driver awareness measure includes a response to a driver's potentially inattentiveness to driving.

18. A vehicle safety system comprises:

a vehicle safety processor configured to:

determine whether a driver occupant is present in a vehicle;

for a driver occupant present in a vehicle, receive driver sensed data;

process the driver sensed data sensed data to recognize an indication of an environmental adjustment, a control gesture, or a safety issue;

for an environmental adjustment, send control signals to vehicle actuators;

for a control gesture, adjust the vehicle environment based on the driver sensed data;

for a safety issue, determine whether there is also an externally sensed safety issue;

for no externally sensed safety issue, generate one or more control signals to activate a driver awareness measure in response to driver occupant inattentiveness to driving;

for an externally sensed safety issue, activate auto safety precaution measures;

determine whether the auto safety precaution measures were successful in avoiding an accident and

if not, record the driver sensed data in a one-time programmable (OTP) memory device.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the driver awareness measure includes any of:

an audible alarm, a visual alarm, or move a seat.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the auto safety precaution measures include any of: auto braking, auto steering, or auto transmission adjustment.
