Abstract

An approach is provided in which an information handling system sends a first request to a user over a voice channel through a first communication network. The request is in an audio format and requests a user data set from the user. The information handling system establishes a messaging channel with a user device utilized by the user through a second communication network. The messaging channel is an end-to-end digital data channel between the information handing system and the user device. The information handling system receives a set of user data corresponding to the first request from the user device over the messaging channel, and sends the set of user data to a conversation system.

Claims (63)

1. A method implemented by an information handling system that includes a memory and a processor, the method comprising:

sending a first request to a user over a voice channel through a first communication network, wherein the first request is in an audio format and requests a user data set from the user;

establishing a messaging channel with a user device through a second communication network, wherein the messaging channel is an end-to-end digital data channel between the information handing system and the user device that is utilized by the user;

receiving a set of user data corresponding to the first request from the user device over the messaging channel; and

sending the set of user data to a conversation system.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein both the voice channel and the messaging channel are concurrently active.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a response from the conversation system for a second set of user data;

sending a second request to the user over the voice channel for the second set of user data;

receiving the second set of user data from the user device over the messaging channel; and

sending the second set of user data to the conversation system.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein, prior to establishing the messaging channel, the method further comprises:

receiving a first one of the one or more utterances from the user over the voice channel; and

initiating the establishing of the messaging channel in response to detecting that the first utterance comprises a first portion of the user data set that fails to complete the user data set.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the first request instructs the user to input the set of user data into the user device to send over the messaging channel.

6. The method of claim 4 further comprising:

waiting to receive a second portion of the user data set for a predetermined amount of time in response to the determining that the first utterance includes the first portion of data that fails to complete the user data set; and

initiating the establishing of the messaging channel in response to determining that the second portion of the user data was not received within the predetermined amount of time.

7. The method of claim 4 further comprising:

combining the one or more utterances with the received set of user data; and

sending the combination of the one or more utterances with the received set of user data to the conversation system.

8. An information handling system comprising:

one or more processors;

a memory coupled to at least one of the processors;

a set of computer program instructions stored in the memory and executed by at least one of the processors in order to perform actions of:

sending a first request to a user over a voice channel through a first communication network, wherein the first request is in an audio format and requests a user data set from the user;

establishing a messaging channel with a user device through a second communication network, wherein the messaging channel is an end-to-end digital data channel between the information handing system and the user device that is utilized by the user;

receiving a set of user data corresponding to the first request from the user device over the messaging channel; and

sending the set of user data to a conversation system.

9. The information handling system of claim 8 wherein both the voice channel and the messaging channel are concurrently active.

10. The information handling system of claim 8 wherein the processors perform additional actions comprising:

receiving a response from the conversation system for a second set of user data;

sending a second request to the user over the voice channel for the second set of user data;

receiving the second set of user data from the user device over the messaging channel; and

sending the second set of user data to the conversation system.

11. The information handling system of claim 8 wherein, prior to establishing the messaging channel, the processors perform additional actions comprising:

receiving a first one of the one or more utterances from the user over the voice channel; and

initiating the establishing of the messaging channel in response to detecting that the first utterance comprises a first portion of the user data set that fails to complete the user data set.

12. The information handling system of claim 11 wherein the first request instructs the user to input the set of user data into the user device to send over the messaging channel.

13. The information handling system of claim 11 wherein the processors perform additional actions comprising:

waiting to receive a second portion of the user data set for a predetermined amount of time in response to the determining that the first utterance includes the first portion of data that fails to complete the user data set; and

initiating the establishing of the messaging channel in response to determining that the second portion of the user data was not received within the predetermined amount of time.

14. The information handling system of claim 11 wherein the processors perform additional actions comprising:

combining the one or more utterances with the received set of user data; and

sending the combination of the one or more utterances with the received set of user data to the conversation system.

15. A computer program product stored in a computer readable storage medium, comprising computer program code that, when executed by an information handling system, causes the information handling system to perform actions comprising:

sending a first request to a user over a voice channel through a first communication network, wherein the first request is in an audio format and requests a user data set from the user;

establishing a messaging channel with a user device through a second communication network, wherein the messaging channel is an end-to-end digital data channel between the information handing system and the user device that is utilized by the user;

receiving a set of user data corresponding to the first request from the user device over the messaging channel; and

sending the set of user data to a conversation system.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein both the voice channel and the messaging channel are concurrently active.

17. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein the information handling system performs further actions comprising:

receiving a response from the conversation system for a second set of user data;

sending a second request to the user over the voice channel for the second set of user data;

receiving the second set of user data from the user device over the messaging channel; and

sending the second set of user data to the conversation system.

18. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein, prior to establishing the messaging channel, the information handling system performs further actions comprising:

receiving a first one of the one or more utterances from the user over the voice channel; and

initiating the establishing of the messaging channel in response to detecting that the first utterance comprises a first portion of the user data set that fails to complete the user data set.

19. The computer program product of claim 18 wherein the information handling system performs further actions comprising wherein the first request instructs the user to input the set of user data into the user device to send over the messaging channel.

20. The computer program product of claim 18 wherein the information handling system performs further actions comprising:

waiting to receive a second portion of the user data set for a predetermined amount of time in response to the determining that the first utterance includes the first portion of data that fails to complete the user data set; and

initiating the establishing of the messaging channel in response to determining that the second portion of the user data was not received within the predetermined amount of time.
