Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for managed file transfer. A managed file transfer server may receive a request from a sender to send a file (bulk data) to a recipient and may determine a location server that is closest to the location of the recipient. A server-to-server transfer can be automatically initiated to move the file to the location server that is closest to the location of the recipient.

Claims (41)

1. A system for managed file transfer (MFT), comprising:

a plurality of MFT location servers, each of the plurality of location servers operating on a server machine having a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

an enterprise server operating on one or more server machines and configured for providing a plurality of server functions including:

receiving a request from a sender to send a file to a recipient;

determining a location of the recipient;

determining an MFT location server of the plurality of MFT location servers that is closest to the location of the recipient; and

automatically initiating a server-to-server transfer to move the file to the MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient, wherein each of the plurality of MFT location servers comprises a subset of the plurality of server functions of the enterprise server, wherein the subset comprises an MFT transfer server and a file server, wherein the plurality of MFT location servers comprises a global MFT location server hosted in a cloud computing environment, wherein the MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient resides in a private network, and wherein the server-to-server transfer moves the file from another MFT location server to the MFT location server in the private network that is closest to the location of the recipient.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the enterprise server comprises a plurality of components, including:

an MFT web service;

an MFT transfer server;

a file server;

a database server; and

an authentication server.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of MFT location servers reside at different geographic locations, and wherein each of the plurality of MFT location servers has no web services or databases.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the enterprise server resides in a cloud computing environment.

5. A method for managed file transfer (MFT), comprising:

receiving, by an enterprise server operating on a server machine, a request from a sender to send a file to a recipient;

determining, by the enterprise server, a location of the recipient;

determining, by the enterprise server from a plurality of MFT location servers, an MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient; and

automatically initiating, by the enterprise server, a server-to-server transfer to move the file to the MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient, wherein each of the plurality of MFT location servers comprises a subset of the plurality of server functions of the enterprise server, wherein the subset comprises an MFT transfer server and a file server, wherein the plurality of MFT location servers comprises a global MFT location server hosted in a cloud computing environment, wherein the MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient resides in a private network, and wherein the server-to-server transfer moves the file from another MFT location server to the MFT location server in the private network that is closest to the location of the recipient.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the enterprise server comprises a plurality of components, including:

an MFT web service;

an MFT transfer server;

a file server;

a database server; and

an authentication server.

7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the plurality of MFT location servers reside at different geographic locations, and wherein each of the plurality of MFT location servers has no web services or databases.

8. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the enterprise server resides in a cloud computing environment.

9. A computer program product for managed file transfer (MFT), the computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions translatable by an enterprise server operating on a server machine for:

receiving a request from a sender to send a file to a recipient;

determining a location of the recipient;

determining, from a plurality of MFT location servers, an MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient; and

automatically initiating a server-to-server transfer to move the file to the MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient, wherein each of the plurality of MFT location servers comprises a subset of the plurality of server functions of the enterprise server, wherein the subset comprises an MFT transfer server and a file server, wherein the plurality of MFT location servers comprises a global MFT location server hosted in a cloud computing environment, wherein the MFT location server that is closest to the location of the recipient resides in a private network, and wherein the server-to-server transfer moves the file from another MFT location server to the MFT location server in the private network that is closest to the location of the recipient.

10. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the enterprise server comprises a plurality of components, including:

an MFT web service;

an MFT transfer server;

a file server;

a database server; and

an authentication server.

11. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of MFT location servers reside at different geographic locations, and wherein each of the plurality of MFT location servers having a subset of the plurality of server functions has no web services or databases.

12. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the enterprise server resides in a cloud computing environment.
