Abstract

A computer-implemented method and system for improving caller verification is provided. The method comprises registering an intended communications session by generating a key using, at least, a first call time window identifier, and storing the key in a database; in response to registering the intended communication session, receiving a request for caller verification, wherein the request comprises data representing a second call time window identifier; in response to receiving the request for caller verification, generating a comparison key based on the request; comparing the comparison key with the key stored in the database; and verifying the intended communication session in response to comparing the comparison key with the key.

Claims (49)

1. A computer-implemented method for improving caller verification, the method comprising:

registering an intended communication session by hashing at least, a first call time window identifier, to generate a key, and storing the key in a database, wherein the registering occurs during an onboarding process and before a request to initiate the intended communication session;

in response to initiation of the intended communication session, receiving a request for caller verification, wherein the request comprises data representing a second call time window identifier;

in response to receiving the request for caller verification, hashing the second call time window identifier to generate a comparison key based on the request;

comparing the comparison key with the key stored in the database; and

verifying the intended communication session in response to comparing the comparison key with the key.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the key comprises a first hash of the first call time window identifier, a first caller data, and a first callee data, and wherein the comparison key comprises a second hash of the second call window, a second caller data, and a second callee data.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the key further comprises using a first cryptographic salt or a first shared communications token, and wherein generating the comparison key further comprises using a second cryptographic salt or a second shared communications token.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein comparing the comparison key with the key comprises determining that the comparison key matches the key, and wherein verifying the intended communication session comprises causing the sending of a notification of a verified call.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein comparing the comparison key with the key comprises determining that the comparison key does not match the key, and wherein verifying the intended communication session comprises causing the sending of a notification of an unverified call.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

pre-registering a set of caller information, wherein the set of caller information comprises at least a caller phone number;

pre-registering a set of callee information, wherein the set of callee information comprises at least a callee phone number; and

wherein generating the key comprises using the caller phone number and the callee phone number.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein generating the comparison key comprises using the caller phone number and the callee phone number.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the intended communication session is a telephone call or a video call.

9. A non-transitory, computer-readable medium storing a set of instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause:

registering a first communication session for subsequent verification of a second communication session, wherein the registering includes hashing, at least, a first call time window identifier to generate a key, and storing the key in a database;

in response to initiation of a second communication session, receiving a request from a caller's device for caller verification, wherein the request comprises data representing a second call time window identifier;

in response to receiving the request for caller verification, hashing the second call time window identifier to generate a comparison key based on the request;

comparing the comparison key with the key stored in the database; and

verifying the second communication session in response to comparing the comparison key with the key.

The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein generating the key comprises hashing the first call time window identifier, a first callee data, and a first caller data using a hash algorithm, and wherein generating the comparison key comprises hashing the second call time window identifier, a second callee data, and a second caller data using the hash algorithm.

The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein generating the key further comprises using a first cryptographic salt or a first shared communications token, and wherein generating the comparison key further comprises using a second cryptographic salt or a second shared communications token.

12. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein comparing the comparison key with the key comprises determining that the comparison key matches the key, and wherein verifying the second communication session comprises causing the sending of a notification of a verified call.

The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein comparing the comparison key with the key comprises determining that the comparison key does not match the key, and wherein verifying the second communication session comprises causing the sending of a notification of an unverified call.

14. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the first call time window identifier is generated using an initiation time of the first communication session.

15. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 9 , storing a set of further instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause:

registering a termination event; and

in response to registering the termination event, unregistering the first communication session.

16. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the second communication session is a telephone call or a video call.

17. A system for improving caller verification, the system comprising:

a processor;

a memory operatively connected to the processor and storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause:

registering an intended communication session by hashing at least, a first call time window identifier, to generate a key and storing the key in a database, wherein the registering occurs during an onboarding process and before a request to initiate the intended communication session;

in response to initiation of the intended communication session, receiving a request for caller verification, wherein the request comprises data representing a second call time window identifier;

in response to receiving the request for caller verification, hashing the second call time window identifier to generate a comparison key based on the request;

comparing the comparison key with the key stored in the database; and

verifying the intended communication session in response to comparing the comparison key with the key.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the memory stores further instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause:

pre-registering a set of caller information, wherein the set of caller information comprises at least a caller phone number; and

wherein generating the key comprises using the caller phone number.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the first call time window identifier is generated using an initiation time of the intended communication session.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the memory stores further instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause:

registering a termination event; and

in response to registering the termination event, unregistering the intended communication session.

21. The system of claim 18 , wherein generating the key comprises hashing the first call time window identifier, a first caller data, and a first callee data using a hash algorithm.

22. The system of claim 18 , wherein generating the comparison key comprises hashing the second call time window identifier, a second caller data, and a second callee data using the hash algorithm.

23. The system of claim 18 , wherein the intended communication session is a telephone call or a video call.
