Abstract

An intelligent television can provide various interfaces for providing video-on-demand (VOD). The user interfaces include unique visual representations and organizations that allow the user to utilize the intelligent television more easily and more effectively. Particularly, the user interfaces pertain to the display of VOD content and better organizations thereof. Further, the user interfaces provide unique process of transitioning between the VOD content.

Claims (69)

1. A method for providing video-on-demand (VOD) in an intelligent television, the method comprising:

receiving a selection in a master view, wherein the selection is associated with VOD;

based on the selection in the master view, providing a first collection of VOD content;

receiving a selection to filter the first collection of VOD content by a first filter criterion;

based on the selection to filter the VOD content, filtering the VOD content using the first filter criterion to generate a second collection of VOD content, wherein the second collection of VOD content comprises the first collection of VOD content determined to be associated with the first filter criterion;

receiving a selection to filter the second collection of VOD content by a second filter criterion;

based on the selection to filter the second collection of VOD content, determining VOD content associated with both the first and second filter criterion;

determining a last filter criterion has not been received; and

based on the determination that the last filter criterion has not been received:

receiving a selection to filter the VOD content determined to be associated with both the first and second filter criterion by a third filter criterion;

determining VOD content determined to be associated with both the first and second filter criterion that is applicable to the first, second, and third filter criterion; and

providing a third collection view of the VOD content determined to be applicable to the first, second, and third filter criterion, wherein one or more of the first, second, and third filter criterion is associated with a location where the VOD content was made, and wherein one or more of the first, second, and third filter criterion is a date field associated with a creation or downloading of the VOD content.

2. The method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising determining the selection to filter the VOD content by the third filter criterion is a last filter selection.

3. The method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a fourth a selection to filter the VOD content by a fourth filter criterion that replaces the second and third filter criterion;

determining content applicable to the first and fourth filter criterion; and

providing a fourth collection view of the VOD content comprising the content determined to be applicable to the first and fourth filter criterion.

4. The method as defined in claim 2 , further comprising:

receiving a selection of an item of content in the third collection view; and

based on the selection of the item of content, providing a detail view of the item of content.

5. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein the second filter criterion comprises a past filter criterion.

6. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein one of the first, second, and third filter criterion is associated with a genre.

7. The method as defined in claim 4 , wherein the detail view includes a description portion and a user-selectable device to play the item of content.

8. A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon processor-executable instructions that cause a computing system to execute a method, the method comprising:

receiving a selection in a master view, wherein the selection is associated with VOD;

based on the selection in the master view, providing a first collection of VOD content;

receiving a selection to filter the first collection of VOD content by a first filter criterion;

based on the selection to filter the first collection of VOD content, filtering the VOD content using the first filter criterion to generate a second collection of VOD content, wherein the second collection of VOD content comprises the first collection of VOD content determined to be associated with the first filter criterion;

receiving a selection to filter the second collection of VOD content by a second filter criterion;

based on the selection to filter the second collection of VOD content, determining the second collection of VOD content associated with both the first and second filter criterion;

determining a last filter criterion has not been received; and

based on the determination that the last filter criterion has not been received:

receiving a selection to filter the VOD content determined to be associated with both the first and second filter criterion by a third filter criterion;

determining the VOD content determined to be associated with both the first and second filter criterion that is applicable to the first, second, and third filter criterion; and

providing a third collection view of the VOD content determined to be applicable to the first, second, and third filter criterion, wherein one or more of the first, second, and third filter criterion is associated with a location where the VOD content was made, and wherein one or more of the first, second, and third filter criterion is a date field associated with a creation or downloading of the VOD content.

9. The medium of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises determining the selection to filter the VOD content by the third filter criterion is a last filter selection.

10. The medium of claim 9 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a selection of an item of content in the third collection view; and

based on the selection of the item of content, providing a detail view of the item of content.

11. The medium of claim 10 , wherein the detail view includes a description portion and a user-selectable device to play the item of content.

12. The medium of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a selection to filter the VOD content by a fourth filter criterion that replaces the second and third filter criterion;

determining content applicable to the first and fourth filter criterion; and

providing a fourth collection view of the VOD content comprising the content determined to be applicable to the first and fourth filter criterion.

13. The medium of claim 8 , wherein the second filter criterion comprises a past filter criterion.

14. The medium of claim 8 , wherein one of the first, second, and third filter criterion is associated with a genre.

15. An intelligent television system comprising:

a memory operable to store video-on-demand (VOD) content; and

a processor in communication with the memory, the processor operable to:

receive a selection in a master view, wherein the selection is associated with VOD;

based on the selection in the master view, provide a first collection of VOD content;

receive a selection to filter the first collection of VOD content by a first filter criterion;

based on the selection to filter the first collection of VOD content, filter the first collection of VOD content using the first filter critcriacriterion to generate a second collection of VOD content, wherein the second collection of VOD content comprises the first collection of VOD content that is determined to be associated with the first filter criterion;

receive a selection to filter the second collection of VOD content by a second filter criterion;

based on the selection to filter the second collection of VOD content, determine the second collection of VOD content associated with both the first and second filter criterion;

determine that a last filter criterion has not been received; and based on the determination that the last filter criterion has not been received:

receive a selection to filter the VOD content determined to be associated with both the first and second filter criterion by a third filter criterion;

determine VOD content determined to be associated with both the first and second filter criterion that is applicable to the first, second, and third filter criterion; and

provide a third collection view of the VOD content determined to be applicable to the first, second, and third filter criterion, wherein one or more of the first, second, and third filter criterion is associated with a location where the VOD content was made, and wherein one or more of the first, second, and third filter criterion is a date field associated with a creation or downloading of the VOD content.

16. The intelligent television system of claim 15 , wherein the processor is further operable to determine the selection to filter the VOD content by the third filter criterion is a last filter selection.

17. The intelligent television system of claim 16 , wherein the processor is further operable to:

receive a selection of an item of content in the third collection view; and

based on the selection of the item of content, provide a detail view of the item of content.
