Binder composition for mineral fibers comprising at least one hydrocolloid and a fatty acid ester of glycerol
The present invention relates to an aqueous binder composition for mineral fibers comprising—at least one hydrocolloid, —at least one fatty acid ester of glycerol.
1. An aqueous binder composition, wherein the composition is suitable for binding mineral fibers and comprises (i) at least two hydrocolloids, one hydrocolloid being gelatin and at least one other hydrocolloid being pectin, starch, alginate, agar agar, carrageenan, gellan gum, guar gum, gum arabic, locust bean gum, xanthan gum, cellulose, a cellulose derivative, arabinoxylan, curdlan, or β-glucan, and (ii) at least one fatty acid ester of glycerol, gelatin being present in an amount of from 10 wt.-% to 95 wt.-%, based on a total weight of (i).
2. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein (ii) comprises one or more of linseed oil, olive oil, tung oil, coconut oil, hemp oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil.
3. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein (ii) comprises a plant oil and/or animal oil having an iodine number of ≤100.
4. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein (11) is present in a concentration of from 3 wt.-% to 30 wt.-%, based on dry hydrocolloid.
5. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein (ii) comprises a plant oil and/or animal oil having an iodine number of ≤25.
6. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein (ii) comprises one or more of a plant oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 163 to 173, a plant oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 7 to 10, and a plant oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 140 to 170.
7. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein (ii) comprises one or more of linseed oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 136 to 178, tung oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 163 to 173, coconut oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 7 to 10, hemp oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 140 to 170, and rapeseed oil having an iodine number in a range of approximately 94 to 120.
8. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition consists essentially of (i), (ii), water and, optionally, one or more of (iii) at least one pH adjuster, (iv) at least one crosslinker, (v) at least one anti-fouling agent, and (vi) at least one anti-swelling agent.
9. The binder composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more compounds selected from tannic acid, condensed tannins (proanthocyanidins), hydrolysable tannins, gallotannins, ellagitannins, complex tannins, tannin originating from one or more of oak, chestnut, staghorn sumac and fringe cups.
